Okay, I'm new to the vintage trailer world...but have been restoring cars for years. I'm a very good body & paint (hobby only) guy and will be doing all my own work. That said I would like to know the true order of things when it comes to getting the outside prepped and painted. I've already purchased several rolls of butyl tape and will be removing doors, windows & j-trim. Question is, at what point do I reinstall windows, door & trim...before or after paint? I don't know if the butyl will stick better to clean aluminum or a freshly painted surface. I want the j-trim to be left raw, so I could leave it off or install and mask. Opinions? Answers? Thanks... I think you'd get the best results painting with the doors, windows and trim off. You can take that time to polish the aluminum if that's your desire. I think most would recommend that you lift up the skins while you have all the trim off and see what rot you find there. These types of trailers should be repaired from the outside in...

Thank you. Great read... I understand about peeking under the skins as well and that'll be my first order after removing the windows, door & trim.
