I always browse Craigslist for future tow vehicles, and while I would prefer a station wagon. I know they they dont make any nowadays that can tow enough. So that led me to searching older station wagons and I came across this, and now I want it. hahaha We are not actually ready to buy a tow vehicle quite yet as my tax return is going into the camper. What do you guys think about towing with a older car like this? I couldnt find much information about tow rating, but I came across one thing that said it tows up to 5000. thoughts? look at all the trunk space! detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/5403867122.html

You are making me sad. I gave my dad's 95 Cutlass SS station wagon to my oldest son and he totaled it last year. I should have kept it. My younger son wanted it. It had 40k original miles on it.
But that body style drives like a tank. No sharp turns or U turns.

One of the most comfortable and best handling wagons ever made was the circa 1984 Mercedes 300TD.(hence my handle "Turbodaddy") Not sure of the tow rating, but I drove one for about 3 years, 500 miles a week...on vegetable oil. It is like cruising down the highway in a Lazyboy! (Purists would say you'd have to have a German caravan to go with it though.)

It's beautiful. I would think it is more than capable of towing a vintage trailer. Check what a hitch, proper 7 way wiring and a brake controller would cost. Also drive it and see how it "feels" on the road. Some older vehicles tend to wander, some don't.
That being said, it's a 90s Mercury and not really vintage (as in wow factor pulling into a rally). I tow with newer vehicles, they just perform better for me. Of course, I'm towing many different trailers.

It could probably tow a house. And although not vintage, it'd be well suited to t toaster style trailer. I wouldn't tow a Compact with it, though. This puppy is so big, nobody would even see anything smaller than an Airflyte. Turning radius is probably around 30 feet, but it's perry nice.

IMO there is nothing being offered for just under 5K that I would rather have than that wagon. It's really a nice example, right down to the luggage rack. When you go vintage tow vehicle shopping you better quadruple your bankroll.
