Yes, we did use bondo for the hole in Redd. It happened just a few days before our big rally, no time to do anything else. It was deep but not huge. Vicx filled and filed and you can't really see it. If it fails, we will use the patch. Looks great right now, almost 6 months later.

This is why we ask for photos. Always photograph your work. Before and afters are a great way to show others how you did things.
Susie I did not know there was bondo made specifically for aluminum. I just bought what was on the shelf at Auto Zone. Thanks for letting me know. I'll check Amazon next time.

I just bought what was on the shelf at Auto Zone. Thanks for letting me know. I'll check Amazon next time. The Bondo brand has about four different types. I think all but one say they can be used on aluminum, so the original is probably as good as any. I know one has the hair in it and my dad, years ago, used the one that you can add the fiberglass cloth to for really big spots. I still have that vehicle and it has held up for 38 years. But there is one Bondo product that actually has aluminum in it. And there are other brands of fillers just for aluminum. Here is the Bondo with aluminum. I've never used it, but if I had to do my bullet holes over again, I think I would try this. www.amazon.com/dp/B010AGXBUO?psc=1Formulated with aluminum, Bondo Metal Reinforced Filler is a specialty filler so strong it can be drilled and tapped. This one-of-a-kind filler provides a long-lasting, durable repair with a metallic appearance that can be painted and resists rust. Bondo Metal Reinforced Filler is a versatile, multi-purpose filler. It can be used for fiberglass, wood, metal, aluminum and masonry and is compatible with all paints systems. Final appearance has metal finish.

I used regular old bondo to fill in the 3" x 4" (or so) hole where my water tank filler used to be. I applied it to both sides of the sanded aluminum, over one of those self-stick aluminum "screen" patches you get from the auto parts store (stuck to the inside). Used a sureform/wood rasp in the first twenty minutes of curing to take off most of the excess, then after it finished curing I used a palm sander to smooth things out, and used the edge of the sander to cut the beginnings of brake lines. Did the same thing on the roof where a tree branch fell and poked a 2 x 2 round hole. Three years, no problems yet.
