I am new to this forum and I am looking at purchasing a jet travel trailer. I do not know much about this maker and have not heard of them before. If anyone has any info about jet trailers I would appreciate it. Thanks

What kind of info do you have to start your research? Year, model, size?

I'm sure one of our research hounds will chime in soon. In the meantime, if you go to see it and take photos (water marks, discoloration in corners, leaks, frame rot, etc) we can help give you an idea of what work may be needed.

yes im going to look at it on sunday. The pics I have seen of it look very good and I don't see any damage. I am going on sunday to look at it in person. Welcome to our little asylum. Look for signs of leakage under all the openings in the trailer. Feel the walls in the corners see if anything is loose. Make sure the floor is solid everywhere including the corners under the cabinets. Looks are deceiving. People putty stuff up and then paint over it so sometimes it's hard to tell by just looking. I carry an Ice Pick with me to jab into places that look soft. Look under the trailer. Are the bottoms of the walls all the way around rotted? up inside the wheel wells? Under the door? Hope that helps you...

Welcome!
There's really no brand more popular than any others. Some like Scottys, some Shastas, some Aristocrats, some Bellwoods and on and on....
Ask to see the repair/build photos. If they are not showing structural repairs, that is a red flag. It is RARE for a trailer not to need at least the bottom skins lifted. It just doesn't happen.
Repairs from the inside tend to be hiding the real rot issues that cause problems. If it is indeed the trailer pictured above, the seller is not providing photos of structural repairs. Also, inside paint is another concern. It can hide water stains that signal wall rot.
Be very wary.

to VTT. SusieQ posted a very good example of an ad for the same type camper you are going to go inspect. Notice also the comments made by vikx. When an ad boasts the camper has been restored there should be a comment that photos documenting the complete restoration are available, ie., LOTS and LOTS of photos of the frame up repairs. What is mentioned in the TCT ad are cosmetic improvements. As vikx has said in the past, if it is not thoroughly documented...it didn't happen. Take lots of photos of the Jet you inspect from every angle and post them here asap, and we should be able to tell you what looks good, what to be cautious about and possibly mention how much some of us believe the camper as is , is actually worth. All our comments will be personal opinions, but most will be generated from experience . Good Luck. As I mentioned on one of your other threads Midway Trailers of Grapevine Tx made the Mid-Jet or Jet, and although there does not seem to be a lot of info on them easily available, doing a search on vintage Mid-Jet campers, should produce a number of Pinterest links that you might be able to track down individual owners from to share info. One other thing, should you decide after inspecting this first Jet, that you like them, but just not this one, that there are references to 1956 onward to very early 1960's Jets or Mid-Jets that would probably have a birch "warm glow" interior reminiscent of the 50's canned hams. If this first one doesn't want to make you pull the trigger...but you want a Jet...patience is a virtue. They may be "scarce" but they do come available every year, so there will be chances in the future to consider additional ones for sale.

Thanks everyone for the input. The trailer im lookong at is not the one in the picture above but does look much like it. The trailer im looking at does not mention restoration but does mention original table and curtains. im going to use an ice pic to check for rot and take lots of pics if i can. im also going to take a good flashlight to inspect under side of the trailer. I will use all the great tips to inspect this trailer. Ill keep everyone posted if i buy the trailer. The price is good i do believe and im dokng to put it on my hunting property to camp in. i am going to make the camp easily able to pull out in case i get a chance to travel in it. the add does say this trailer does not have a bathroom but im thinking in 1965 and in a 12' trailer i wouldnt think it would have one. Once again thanks and keep any tips coming. This will be my first trailer purchase.

Some, like the Shasta Compacts, have small closets that are just big enough to put a porta-potty in or even add a toilet. I prefer the porta potty. There's a couple of discussion threads on adding toilets or using porta-potties. If you get the trailer, you'll have plenty of time to figure that part out.

The sweet thing about buying a 12' camper is if you are going to mainly use it on your property, you can build a simple shed roofed pavilion cover over it that will help prevent water entry, and you can more easily work on it under the simple shed as you get it up to full camping condition. Here is a terrific example of a weather protection "shed" that our Member wisconsinjoe has built. Not simple but VERY functional, and a small potty room could be put in the "side shed area with a porta- pottie in it without taking up too much of the footprint. vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/3838/camper
