I love your trailer! It's so similar to ours with little differences that make it fun to compare.
Once we have our '57 back together we'll be camping with our family of four, I can't wait! An actual mattress while camping...wow!
Thanks for posting your family photos, they are fun to see.

Sent you a PM mountainsounds, let me know if you didn't get it. Would be happy to send you two of the logos I had recreated for the front and back of your '57.

Beautiful trailer. Priceless history and photos and an awesome matching awning!

Hey Ice, I just finished looking over your blog. What a lovely trip down memory lane. I didn't have memories like yours because my parents didn't camp, but I made up for it and created them with my own kids with many camping trips in our '85 pop up which I still own. We head out in a week, again. I was curious as to the original color of the tongue. Was it the salmon or was it white? I can't tell from the pix, it just looks rusted. Also, can you share where your trailer had the rear window cracked and the vent closet door tweaked in the attempted break in? Was it parked in a campground in Utah? Thanks, Rod

Do you have 15 inch tires? I'm researching new tires. Our Rainbow came from the PO with 7.00-15 LT tires. I'm looking at the ST225/75R15 but I'm not sure the rim size on the wheels. Do you happen to know this on your trailer? Our wheels are probably the originals since the moons are original and the same as in our sales pamphlet.

You may not be able to get those on and off the trailer without deflating them. One of the biggest problems we have with our 50s trailers. The wheels and tires were not as wide as they are today and the newer ones can be a real pain to stuff up in the wells past the hub of the axle.

Our current tires are approximately 8 inches wide and 28 inches tall, which is close to the ST225/75R15's I'm looking at, I think we have the space but I'm going to measure again. I'm also not sure the rims on our wheels are big enough.

I am so glad you raised the question on tire size. Our trailer has 14" rims, and when I pulled it out of the Utah location both were flat. They were G78-14 bias ply tires. We took the rims to a tire shop and the installed "Trailer Only" 14" radials, but I had to deflate them to get them on the trailer. Frustrating. It wasn't the size of the rim; it was the width of the tire and I think you'll have that problem with a 14 or 15" rim.

We also have that problem with our 60 Shasta Deluxe...going to have new springs installed on top of the axle to give 3 inches of lift an make it possible to change the tires in the normal fashion. The old springs will be used to make a kitchen santoku knife for Melinda and a Bowie knife for me, as a part of the trailer's accessories!

Our original Rainbow sales brochure says trailer was sold with 7.00 X 15 tires. The tires on the trailer are 7.00 x 15 LT, 10 ply tires. I was hoping to get new ST tires but it looks like we will replace with 7.00X15LT. I'm worried about clearance (deflating does not sound good) but more likely, ride height issues if we went with a wider and shorter tire. I've also been looking at white walls but they are 2X the price of the standard black. It looks like the tires were originally black (brochure photo) so we'll probably stick with those. Our local tire store can get me the 7.00X15LT's.

Thanks, Rod Good question on the tongue color. I'll have to carefully look at all the old pictures I have, but I think it was painted the Coral color rather than white. What I remember MOSTLY is rust on the tongue. The he attempted break-in occurred in the mid '90's while parked on our 10 acres in Southern Utah. Our location is somewhat remote surrounded by Dixie National Forest (in the same area near Cedar Mountain where the guy was breaking into vacation cabins and spending the winters a few years ago - he was caught). Our property will get a visit by the Kane County sheriff on occasion, and that's the only problem we had in 40 years. Bravo for making memories. Those are irreplaceable.

I'll double check my tire size - I thought they were 14's but I'll check again.

Our local tire store can get me the 7.00X15LT's. LT tires are light truck tires. Before "Special Trailer" tires came along, this is what our trailers were towed with, although they weren't called LT tires back then. Personally, I would not have a problem towing a 1500-2000 lb. trailer with LT tires. If your tire shop says you will be OK, you probably will be.
