Good morning VTT.
We have our birch walls up and I will be working on the welting next. After that will come framing our queen sized bed. We are planning for a pull out drawer in the middle for storage. I remember seeing some pictures of someone's framing job in a thread somewhere but I can't locate it now. Does anyone have pictures of their bed framing?

Not sure what you are working on with the welting but I just want to mention that the welting goes between the walls and the frame. It is stapled on before the walls go on.

Hmmmm....we thought between the wall panels and ceiling panels. I'm going to be stapling them on the top of the wall panels before the ceiling goes on. No going back now since the walls are glued and nailed to the wall framing already.

OK, I think I understand what you are doing. You're putting it between the wall and the ceiling, where they join. Sounds right. I was thinking about where the front and back walls meet.

Wow, queen size, that will be nice. Will the bed fold up as a couch too? I'm very close to this stage on my project so will be curious to see what you do. I've been thinking about maybe sliding a cooler underneath, maybe a porta-potty. Your trailer has a bathroom doesn't it?

Our trailer originally had a gaucho bed but we are replacing it with a full-time queen bed. Unfortunately no bathroom. We originally had two closets. We will rebuild the curb side closet and will replace the street side closet with more kitchen counter space.

Yes.... The welting, or "Gimp" as we like to call it goes on the top of the walls all the way around and the tube part is flush with the outside of the wall panels. Ceiling goes down on top of that. Same with front and rear walls. The gimp just continues on down in front and rear.

There are photos of my full size bed framing in my Shasta vids and pics on my website. Here's a link to the photos. The bed frame is usually one of the very last things I build because I like to run the floor all the way under the bed and I like to have gimp where the front face of the cabinet on the bed meets the floor. Just like all the other floor cabinets. www.cannedhamtrailers.com/57shastaphotos.htm

Thanks for pointing out the gimp. I didn't notice it before but it makes a lot of sense. We have already laid our tile and it goes under the bed. We were debating whether to start in the rear with the bed frame and work towards the front to the dinette. Both front and rear are open but the rear is toward the back of the garage so I thought it'd be logical to work from there to the front so we can get stuff in easier through the open front which is near the garage door. As long as we have all of our cabinets, closet, and dinette measured out, is there a wrong vs. right way to do it?

None what so ever. What ever is the easiest to accomplish. Your plan sounds good to me. You must button up the rear paneling of course before you can build the bed frame. So get that in along with the rear framing and then you are good to go. It's the way I did the 54 Aljoa too. Worked from rear to front. Buttoned up the front last. Now I'm installing the metal.

I find it's hard for me to measure the true length due to the elliptic shape of the front and rear. The taller it gets, the longer it gets. If your front seat base's are already made, it might be easier (safer) to make a one or two inch length adjustment in the bed size, as it's built?
Put everything inside, and give it a trial fit, then build the bed to fit the remaining empty space.
Make sure the walls are at a 90 degree angle, and the wall width (roof) is the same every 24" in it's entire length (front/top/rear). Cross measure, and it needs to be the same.

Oh I guess that I didn't understand that the kitchen and tall closet cabinet would not be in yet. You might want those in place first before you build the bed frame so you have something to build it to.

I have sort of an odd set up for my rear bed. I framed my cushions and have 1/4 ply in the large one. It spans across the hotwater heater on one side to the toilet lid on the other side for support. It's all in my blog. I hope it helps. loungebait.blogspot.ca/

Thanks everyone. Your suggestions are really helpful.
Bagpipes...I love what you did. We decided to forgo the gaucho but your porta-potty storage idea got me thinking on how maybe we can store one under the curb-side dinette seat. It's so awesome to see everyone's pictures. It gets the imagination going.
