I thought you might enjoy seeing a few photos of my parents conversion of a blue bird school bus that they did from scratch. This included everything from installing holding tanks and an extra gas tank for long trips, adding a custom extended bumper for storage and propane tanks, ripping out the school bus seats and building the inside into a beautiful RV. I watched them steam and bend wood for the cabinets, upholster cushions, sew drapes, and push through all of the challenges of making this into a beautiful (for it's time) RV. We took many trips in it, and they inspired me to do the project I am working on today. They have offered their help this summer with some of the build, and I am looking forward to it. They set the bar pretty high for me to follow! The exterior before The interior finished.. Front View with cabinets stereo and CB radio.. very popular in the 1970's The kitchen with sink, stove The fridge.. Cost $800.00 even in the 1970's View to the back of the bus. There were two long gouchos at the back that made into a king bed for 4 kids to sleep on. The dining table side.. Bathroom door Edge of back goucho seating .. Bus after custom paint...

Great memories... takes me back to the early 70s when we bought an ex USPS metro van and tried our own conversion. Neither of us had any skills to apply to the task and the metro got about 6 miles to the gallon, and in '73 we Californians were shooting each other in lines at the gas station, so ineptitude, young with little scratch, and lack of fuel made us abandon the project. Almost brings tears to the eyes for those that persevered. Thanks Lady W

You thought right, total awesomeness!! My MIL would love the orange and brown decor. You must have very fond memories of that time.

That decor brings back some memories for me. I think we're from the same generation.

Notice that good quality laminated panelling was the hight of sophistication in the 1970's... Rather than using "plain old birch". My how times have changed!
