Low "M"

Not sure how to explain it but my motivation (M) has been been low on my resto project the past week or so. I mean, I was full steam ahead for the past several months with the tear down and everything that the old trailer and I have been through but recently, but I'm not getting the same itch to "get at it". Could be that spring (in Washington state anyway) is coming earlier than normal and I have a bunch of other home projects calling my name as the weather is getting nicer. Loved the tear down starting in late November, the floor and wall rebuilds (thanks Mobiltec), and really was digging on the wiring redo (thanks VIKX), but now that I'm in the final outside exterior stages (roof vent, seam sealing, window and exterior attachments clean up and prep for re-install), I'm finding my M is at a low point. Heck, I still have to do the interior when I get the exterior done, and, cart the old girl off to my paint guy. What gives? I'm not sure. I still have "the big ham" lurking in the shadows next. Am I the only one that has suffered this low M phenomenon? Perhaps it just the time of year, with the weather changing.. Rant over, thanks as always, for listening I'm sure my M level will rise again, soon. RJ

It's like becoming snow blind. Sometimes you just need to see and do something else for a bit. I get it. You could also equate it to writer's block. Take a break. Do something else for a week or two. You will become motivated again. Too much of anyting can be a bad thing.

Exactly why you need more than a couple....
Yup, take a break, enjoy some yard work. You'll start that "thinkin in your head" process pretty quickly.
I hate grunt work, and luckily have a great person to help me, but it's still grunt work.
We're here for you.

If you are working by yourself it is harder to stay motivated than when you have company on the project.

Or a supervisor dog to keep you on track!

Sometimes a dog makes the best assistant. Just any thing to keep you company.

Thanks folks. OK, took most of the day off and did something different. Went below my house and worked outside on clearing some brush, some dead trees, and worked on a trail for my RZR. That was enjoyable, getting outside and buzzing some wood up and chunking up some dead stumps with a pulaski. Got a few hundred yards of said trail built and took Mrs. RJ for a few laps. Worked out fine for a change of pace. Ruby, the neighbor pup even jumped in the RZR when I ran across the street to say hi to Bob my neighbor. Ruby and I went for a woods cruise Put a new seat on my MT bike and then..... had to get back to Dot, the Shasta. Will post a few pics in the 72 thread.

I also have a *spinning the wheels* syndrome where nothing seems to be going together... If there is a problem, say a warp, lack of a part or a surprise in the build, it can stop me dead. Can't do THIS until I do THAT sort of thing. Drives me nuts when it happens.
Had an issue with a cabinet a few months back where I needed to fix the finish or stop the build. Everything I tried so did not work. Finally had to compromise so the welting and ceiling panels could go on and the build went very easily after. Just a Glitch.
Sometimes walking away for a few days really helps. Glad you had a fun day.

I've been working on two projects at once and now I'm just basically sick of work and need a break from all of it. Especially with this daylight wasting time now. Getting up in the dark is for working people and fisherman. I'm not a working person any longer and I can't go fishing unless I leave.

It happens. You've worked and worked and worked and worked and you still have a long ways to go... you start thinking "Shouldn't this be done by now?" Walk away for a few days.

I'm right there with you. I've been working on my trailer every day for a month now and am at the point of getting the old skins to fit back together. Holy heck is it frustrating. It's my first trailer and so I've made lots of mistakes putting it back together, mostly in measurements. After redoing the ceiling and the rotten sections I have realized that carpentry is not my strong suit. This forum and mobiltec's videos have been a godsend. My way of decompressing has been and . I can't wait to be able to actually stay in it. I think I'm going to forgo doing my own painting though as I am beat. In order to get it done quickly and professionally, do you all think I can just tow it to a local paint shop minus the trim and windows installed? It's only going to be painted white as it's got the textured aluminum running down the middle and the front. I was even considering Maaco. What's a reasonable estimate for a 20 ft? I've never had a vehicle painted before and have always found body shops to have extortionate prices when I've been in accidents. Heather

I understand the motivation thing. I am in the last 3 weeks of a 15 YEAR project that started as writing a book and ended up with going to film school and creating a 32 episode film series! Film editing a project like this is like eating an elephant.. It's overwhelming... It's been literally thousands of hours...I have found the secret to keeping my motivation up.
I take breaks like you did.... And I NEVER think about how much further I have to go... And I focus on imagining the joy of completion.
Plus... As soon as I am finished I get to work on my trailer full time! Maybe you need a road trip as a reward ... I do!

Hi Heather,
Yes, the trailer can be painted minus the windows/trim. Look for a local person doing work on the side or after hours... much more likely to be reasonable. Cost I don't know; depends on your location and what painting goes for.
