By the way. All the tarps sold at Home Depot, Lowes and Ace Hardware are pure junk. I now buy all my tarps from Tarps Online. These are the highest quality I have found to date. You can feel the quality in them. Heavy too so the shipping is a bit expensive but it all works out because of the low prices and the quality of the product. www.tarpsonline.com/

I will let you know how it does after the rainy season. I have used a Harbor Freight tarp and it literally fell apart in the So California summer sun within about 2 weeks.

Harbor Freight in our area sells at least three different grade/price range tarps the more expensive ones hold up the cheap one don't. I buy the cheap ones for a quick temporary cover and buy the better ones for extended use. As anything else you get what you pay for.

I just got a tarp from www.tarpsonline.com. 20'x20'. Covers our Airflyte very well. Appears to be good quality. Shipped fast. I'm a satisfied customer.

Hi Friends,
Just to add something. I found some 3.5 mil clear plastic sheeting at Lowes for $12. It's 25' x 10'. I am utilizing it as an under sheet placed under a tarp as an extra level of safety if the tarp on top starts to weather and you don't catch it in time.
Our forcasted 3 days of rain has just started...in So Cal.
Cheers,
Rod

I was gone for 3 months in the winter without the benefit of keeping an eye out for tears in the tarp. Plus here in the Pacific Northwest it rains constantly and I still hadn't redone the roof vents.
It worked awesome and came back to dry trailer. I highly recommend it for winterizing/waterproofing your trailer. It is the best insurance for little cost.

Has anyone put fitness balls on top of their trailer before tapping? I was thinking this possibly let the snow slide off and not accumulate on the roof. I'm just wondering if there's a downside to this that I haven't factored in.

Hi, One think that should be added is how to fold up your tarp once it's no longer needed. I have a plan. The next time it rains, I will take pix of how I fold it up and post them in a thread, so it's really easy to unfurl it before an upcoming rain. It drizzled last night and I came up with a method when I was folding it back up, but didn't think to take pix. The extra time folding would result in a very easy tarp drop from the top of the trailer. BTW, always open up your brand new tarp on the ground, not on the top of the trailer........ Alll bee Bock. Rod Okay,
Here we go. Here's Rod's way to roll up a tarp so that it is easy to roll down off the top of your trailer when the rains come. Maybe it's nothing new, but I figured I would post my how-to anyway. My tarp measures 30 x 16'. It is too long and doesn't cover the sides of the trailer completely when fully rolled out over the trailer. In the images, the silver side is top side and the brown is the underside of the tarp. Two people works better than one, but it can be done. When working on a ladder always try to have someone brace the ladder for you for safety.
Step 1. Sweep or blow away all the dust, dirt and leaves on the surface where you will roll up the tarp.
Step 2. Place tarp underside down on the ground(brown side down). The top surface(silver) of the tarp should facing upward and should be visible.
Step 3. Fold the outer edges towards the middle. Keep the full length. Underside is now on top.
...
Cheers
Rod
Wow, great idea Rod. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Dave, Thanks, I am glad it was helpful. BTW, my next tarp will be coming from Tarpsonline. Here is a link to an image showing how Andy(my Westerner) is wrapped up. i174.photobucket.com/albums/w117/Teachndad/Vintage%20trailers/DSC00932_zpskyh75kwk.jpg This is what I did when my tarp was too small on the sides. Full coverage would be better. I have overlapped the top tarp over smaller ones that are tied and clamped underneath. Then on the outside, I have connected the grommets on the top tarp. The body is currently raised up for work on the frame and sits on sawhorses, so it sits up high. I also put 50 lb. sand bags on the tops of the saw horses to keep wind from lifting the body. Cheers, Rod

Costco has 16x12 tarps for only $11. Trying to figure out how to splice 2 together... You can sew them. Use outdoor upholstery thread with UV protection. Reinforce the seam where you are going to sew, you can buy a roll of stuff for that or use duct tape. Over lap the edges about two inches and tape each side and sew two seams. You can seal the stitching with the liquid sealer in the camping department for tents or buy a can of waterproof spray.

I attached a 1" PVC pipe to each short end of my tarp. Then I roll each end toward the middle and end up with something that looks similar to Teachndad's method but of course mine is stiff because I have the PVC in it. (And I haven't folded in the middle.) I found this made it easier for me to lift the tarp up and over the top and then it unrolls easier. The PVC helps hold it in case there's some wind. It doesn't blow around as much. As a bonus, when I bungee it, the bungee cord touches the PVC not the trailer directly. I get white tarps from TarpsOnline. They're sturdy. And they look nice on Dottie. That's important.

What are fitness balls, Billy? Anything that will make a sloping tent roof should help. The trailer roof vent helps as well. If you have snow load, be sure to support inside. A couple of 2 x 4s are good braces.

I bought a Classic Accessories cover from Amazon. It is meant to fit R-Pod trailers but it works for mine quite well. My trailer is 13ft and I needed the 20ft cover for it to work properly (I originally bought the 16ft cover but it didn't fit because the R-Pod is shaped differently from mine). See the attached pics. Here is the cover if anyone is interested - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GZLR754?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

I use the R Pod covers as well, the 150 fits the smaller hams really well. That being said, they aren't ideal for repairs because of being weather resistant, not waterproof... Great for keeping dust and debris at bay.
