Not sure I did this right...(http://images.proboards.com/v5/bbcode/image.png) there should be a photo of the tongue on my '65 FAN. I cleaned it up and primed a few days ago and noticed the "mini" ball. What is it for? Also finally found VIN under several layers of paint. Can't read it yet, I'll wirebrush soon. Hoping to get final topcoats done in the next week before it gets too cold. By the way, I'm using foam rollers and the "new" Majic paint from Tractor Supply. It is coming out pretty nice. New Holland red, white, and an as yet to be determined black striping scheme. photos soon!
Thanks!

Looks like my photo didn't show. I'll try again tomorrow. What it was is a roughly 1 1/4" ball attached on the left side of the tongue( facing tongue).Ever see a word like "tongue'' and wonder if there really is such a word? Spell check says its OK.

Likely for a sway bar attachment, if it's on the side of the frame tongue.

Thanks John,
I'll try to upload photo later. I towed the trailer about 150 miles when I picked it up (with 6 cyl. 1/2 ton pickup). Trailer has brakes but they were not connected at that time. I certainly knew it was back there, but no sway or other issues were apparent. Truck is rated for 5000 lbs. towing...I think trailer is about 2500 lbs. Do you think I really need anti-sway thingy?
Thank you.

Yup, looks like a ball for a sway control.

Here ya go;
www.drawtite-hitches.com/product_categories/sway_control
Would also need this if not using load leveling hitch system;
mounted like this on ball hitch side; The extra hole below would be where the small extra ball would mount next to your ball on hitch. Hitch would then have 2 balls (then no longer referred to as "Her" ) one large for hitch, one small for friction sway control bar end and other end of sway bar would be on other small ball mounted to trailer frame. (Total 3 balls after all is installed)
