Do you think this is the Shasta floor tile pattern? Armstrong If so, it is Asbestos. And without having your tile tested, it would be safe to treat it as if it is. Here you can find a list of accredited labs by state: ts.nist.gov/standards/scopes/plmtm.htmI read it costs $20 per sample but usually requires 3 samples.

To be honest, I just assume any tile made in 1962 most likely is asbestos. Sort of like paint made before a certain date has lead. Back 30 years ago when I was doing carpentry work to pay for college, I bet I handled more asbestos than I want to know about. When I was a child, I remember my father melting lead (to recycle) in the driveway that he picked up at worksites. Changing times.

Nail polish remover is lacquer thinner (as far as I know), It could work but again try in a hidden area to see what it does to the floor. There has to be a way.......

Nail polish remover is acetone and so is lacquer thinner with some additives. You can buy plain acetone, too. I noticed today that one of my floor tiles was recently scraped with something while I was working on the trailer. I haven't been real careful about protecting them since I bought new tile. Anyway, the part with the pattern is really thin! It peeled up like paper.

I gave WD40 and nail polish remover a try on a small out of the way area. No good.
The glue is tough stuff.
