Has anybody here ever rigged up/more permanently installed a standard household a/c window unit inside their camper? I've got room in my former bathroom (which already has a 12 X 8 vent in the upper part of the wall.......)which is becoming extra storage space anyway.... or maybe under one of the dinette benches and vented straight down through the floor? We`ve done some, here`s a couple of pics....This one is under the bed in a 72 Shasta Compact. This is our favorite for a Compact with a permanent bed. We especially like how it looks as though it was always there. Someone else did one in an existing cupboard in their Airflyte that was absolutely brilliant, and again, looked original.

I like the look of this one also, but really it`s positioned too low and doesn`t cool as quickly as the one in the closet. If we didn`t live in the south then this is the one that I`d prefer.

I remember a very cool one on the old forum, where the window AC unit was inside the bottom of a cabinet on drawer slides. When not in use, it rolled inside the camper and an exterior door closed over it. When in use, one opened the door and slid the unit outside like it was in a window.

That would be my choice, as I have the perfect cabinet for it. Out of sight out of mind when you dont need it. My only concern would be that it would be on the floor under the bed, and I'm not sure it would cool well enough. If anyone has this type of setup, I'd be interested in your opinions.

I thought about the one at the old site that was outside on the ground and ducted through holes in the floor. It even had steel garage door handles on the side of it.
