Finally found a vintage Shasta for sale in the area. It was on craigslist advertised as "ICE FISHING CAMPER!!!" and had no revealing details other than "old camper" in the ad. The seller had to get rid of it by the end of the week and was just about to take it to a scrap yard when i contacted him. I offered him just above scrap price for it and picked it up that weekend. The condition wasn't as bad as i was expecting although my mother-in-law literally cried when she saw it and offered to buy us a new camper. She doesn't want her daughter or grand daughter to sleep in this. The paint is all original and there's been little modifications to the exterior. They replaced the front, left dinette and rear windows with home made wood frame windows (ice fisherman don't care for original jalousie windows it seems). They also stripped and scrapped most of the interior, building out framing for insulation over the original birch paneling. Thankfully i can see the ghost of the old interior on the birch paneling and can use that as a rough template to try and restore it. It took me about 10 minutes with my Makita impact driver to remove all the things the ice fisherman added to the interior. I think the plan at this point is to keep the exterior as is, find original windows to reinstall, remove the door window and replace top aluminum, replace J rail and polish the windows and drip rail but leave the original paint. The interior i would like to try and replicate as close to original as i can, replacing all birch paneling and reproducing cabinets, seats, drawers, etc. as best i can. Unless i can find another 16-SCS for parts but at that point i may be better off rebuilding that one. Parts im looking for: Front window Left dinette window rear window upper door aluminum interior light fixtures Please PM me if you know of a good RV salvage yard or have a parts 16-scs lying around. Joe

Welcome Joe! I have a 64 SCS, also gutted but does have some of the closet and part of the bathroom intact. Heater is missing and all the walls have been torn out. PO put HUGE SCREWS #12? in the J rail, not sure how to remedy that. Photos are here: s189.photobucket.com/user/vikxphotos/library/64%20Shasta%20SCS?sort=3&page=1Let me know if you need anything else. I also have pix of the holding tank here on the board.

The pictures help a lot, thanks! I don't suppose you'd be willing to part with your windows? Is the piece of steel edge on the bunk original? mine still has that bunk and the metal edge but it had modern wood screws attaching it so i removed it thinking it was something the previous owner added to strengthen it. Also i'm curious how that upper bunk operated, was it just a single or did it have a piece that slid out making it into a double?

Sorry, the windows have to stay with the trailer.
The upper bunk and metal edge appears to be original and is deep enough for a child. Not sure about the slide out part; mine doesn't have it.
Given the lousy shape of my SCS, it is very difficult to answer your questions. We do have at least one or two others on the board in much better condition. Also, my SCS will be very expensive to fix, many missing parts and pieces.
