I know this is a vintage trailer site, but I just ordered a 19' version of the new Shasta Airflyte Retro (in red). Because the new one is pretty true to the original, I'm sure that there is lots I can learn here. It may be replacing a 12 year old 19' Airstream. We'll see. We probably won't get delivery until Spring, and we'll decide after checking out the Shasta whether or not to sell the 'Stream

You are quite welcome here even with the "cheat"... These Airflytes will hold their place in the annals of Shasta history. And you get to be a part of that.
I have seen the sales promos regarding the Throwback model, and although I have a few reservations about the re-release, I think the idea is great. You will own one of a very limited selection...only 1941 if them being made. Allowing for the fact that there will be a certain number wrecked, stolen, or rotted away after 50 years (like all the current ones have been)...They will be quite valuable amongst collectors one day...
I will be anxious to see photos too, once they are past the prototype. Also can't wait to see how they are reviewed by owners once they have a chance to use them and camp them...

This is of great interest to the entire vintage trailer community. Why wouldn't it be? It's been all the talk lately. So it's great to have a sucker, I mean owner here to show us the real deal when it comes out. These freaks of nature, I mean beautiful little Modern Retros are a cool idea. Seriously,,, Many people want the luxury of the newer trailers and this allows them to have something that has the look and feel of the old days too. A lot of real vintage trailers are brought up to today's standards during the restore process so Shasta has taken the ball and run with it. I congratulate them for choosing this way to celebrate their tenure in the industry. I believe it's a first? Welcome to the asylum and thanks for your interest. Remember that they are all just boxes on wheels and not much has really changed over the years other than the materials and a little technology.

And a different company now owns the Shasta name. Congrats on your purchase I think they are cool my only doubt is the size of the bathroom and the rear bed. I hope they are large enough for a person to use.

Here are the specs- I've opted for the 19' length, so it will have a full width, L shaped gaucho at the back, not the shorty rear bed. - all else is the same. I'd attach the recently released brochure, and floorplans, but I haven't figured that out yet.
-----------
Shasta began building travel trailers in 1941. For 2015, Shasta has created a nearly exact replica of it's iconic 1961 Shasta Airflyte 16SC Travel Trailer complete with the legendary Shasta wings! This re-release has been scheduled for a limited construction of 1,941 trailers and will be available in all three original colors; Matador Red, Seafoam Green, and Butternut Yellow. Shasta has paid close attention to duplicate every small detail down to the original Shasta logo magazine rack. The new Shasta Airflytes will also feature an all-in-one bathroom with a toilet and shower in place of the closet to meet the desires of today’s campers.
True to the Original 1961 Airflyte: - All Windows Same Size as Original - Solid Wood Cabinet Doors w/ “Chevron” Handles - “Scalloped” Cabinet Doors like Original - Wings are to Exact Original Dimensions - Same 3 Original Colors - Trademark Logo Magazine Rack
Some of the upgrades over the original are as follows: - 24” wide Entry Door vs. Original 22” - 54" wide by 76" long Full Front Bed - 39” wide by 56" long Twin width Rear Bed - 76.5” Interior Height (6’4”) - 96” Exterior Height - 25 gal. Fresh Water Tank - 11 gal. Black Water Tank - 18 gal. Gray Water Tank - Concealed Air Conditioner - Concealed Flip-Down Stabilizer Jacks - Concealed Radio Controls w/ Aux Input - Friction Hinge Door - LED Lighted Door Handle - All Interior and Exterior Lights are LED - Original Gas Lamp will now be LED - Bathroom in place of Closet

Wonder if they designed the new one after seeing the reaction on the web to the original.

I suspect they had it all along, but wanted to highlight the Airflyte theme. I guess I'm a little confused. The original Airflyte was a 12' box with a 3' tongue, wasn't it? So the 16-foot new one is longer? Then the 19-foot would be a 16' box with a 3 foot tongue, like the original Deluxe? I like the larger one. It provides a real bed in the rear, so you can leave it up all the time if you want to and still be able to sit down to eat. Bathroom is still pretty small, but it does seem to have a little more storage than the smaller version. I don't get how that L-shaped pull out gaucho in the rear works. I'll look forward to more info. I still wish they had figured out a way to put in a closet.
All that being said, I think it's kinda cool. Not for us, but cool, nonetheless. I don't think it will detract one bit from the original versions. Maybe make them even more desirable.

How cool would it be to have a vintage one and the new one both? I'd like to see them side by side at a Rally. That would be too cool....

What I think would be cool is to get my own done. I have worked on it all day for the last two days and hope to get to work on it Tomorrow and Friday. Maybe some day.

You guys... The addiction is rearing it's ugly head. Me thinks a meeting is in order:
Welcome to our Vintage Trailer Therapy Group!
New Rule: Just because your trailer isn't old, doesn't mean you can skip meetings. ANY trailer added to your menagerie is an indication that you are falling off the wagon...
And to have an "old" one and a "new" one makes you a rare DOUBLE DOWN ADDICT. We all want to play in your sandbox...
