The only secret there is really is patience. I have read so many tales and also had it happen so many times, that they just seem to come along and find you. I have spent a lot of time looking through ads and craigslist, even when I was not looking for more projects. I think the owner of this one actually came on here, trying to scope a value out for it. When they finally landed on their price I got in touch and made the offer to buy it. The problem was that I live in New York, and the trailer was located in Illinois. Even with most of the winter laid off from work, the horrible weather we kept getting kept me from going after it. I finally begged off a couple days from work and went after it. Between the gas, (about 9 mpg towing for 700 miles), meals (which were not much since I traveled alone), and tolls on the turnpike, I figure it was close to $800, even though I have been too scared to add up the gas receipts. (Tolls alone were nearly $80 on the way out, empty. On the way back I took the state roads and saw a little of the countryside, rather than paying again.) I second that, my latest trailer cost $850.00 and another $850.00 to move it 100 miles. I had to buy 4 new rims and tires, a set of magnetic tow lights, enough wiring to stretch all the way to back, misc supplies and a tank of gas($84.00). oh and mine completey fell into my lap also, wasn't looking but to good to pass up.

I never consider the cost of any new parts like tires and or wheels that I may need to pick up a trailer. That's something you would have done anyhow. The tires and or wheels is a heck of a good place to start on your trailer. That way it's safe for towing and ready for camping if need be.

Great camper! I love when they are unmolested.
On a side note, I bought our Compact sight unseen and it worked out great. I drove 2000 miles (in three days) to pick it up and 3000 home. I spent $550 to get 3 tires, repack the bearings, rewire the lights, propane parts, water system parts, etc. Gas, food, camping cost $1200. My wife and I camped back and the entire trip stretched over a month so I called it a "vacation expense" on our monthly budget.
A little creative bookkeeping I've learned for our friends in DC;-)

That's a great find! I see a little mouse nest under the fridge. You weren't kidding about a critter house.
