I've had the same Carlisle tires on our dirt bike trailer for the past 10 years and have never had a problem. That trailer has had more weight on it than our camper will have. I'm heavily leaning towards a set of those for the Shasta. I do keep the air at the right psi and I keep protectant like armor all on them so they don't dry rot.

I just purchased a 1955 Aljoa and the tires are 14 yrs old! I believe the weight is approx 1400lbs. I’d like to make sure I’m replacing them with the safest tire. The tires on it are 165R15 87S M+8, so when I call around should I ask for the same tire, or should I ask for a tire that is rated for 2000 lbs and a radial tire and D or E range? All this tire stuff is new to me. Hi, The tire size you listed looks like mud and snow car tires. Maybe I am wrong. If it is, then the PO, mounted the wrong type of tires anyway. I had to put new tires on a 2,400 lbs. vintage trailer last year and haul it back over a few days. I debated the bias vs. radial thing and finally went with radials. Why? I had read that radials ride softer. Vintage trailers are old and my thinking was that if I could soften the ride to reduce shaking of parts that could loosen over time, it would be a good idea to go with radials. And, that's what I did. Just throwing that into the mix. Cheers, Rod

Hi Friends,
If you use a 5" wide rim vs. a 6" wide rim, what's the net effect on the width of radial ST205/75 R15 tire? Negligible? Just thinking a narrower rim will lead to a narrower tire which might make the difference in slipping it under the lip of the fender well.
Thanks,
Rod

Thanks, Rod That was my thinking also Rod when it came time to choose rims. I sourced two matching sets, one 5" wide and one 6". I chose the 5" for that very reason.

Hi Friends,
There is a very helpful video on etrailer.com that explains the characteristics of a wheel rim including clear explanations of how to measure rim width, bolt diameter and inset offsets. Once at etrailer, search for Item number AM20404, click on the link in the search results and after following the link, scroll a little down to find the video.
Also, just to mention, America's Tire(Discount Tires in some areas) has a price match program. They had tires that were $12 less at TireBuyer. So, I filled out the online application and was quickly approved.
I try to buy from chain tire stores because if you have tire blow outs or tire damage when you are traveling, you can often find one of the chain stores within suitable driving distances within a state or area. This came in handy about 8 years ago when I had a set of tires blow on a trip within 300 miles of each other. We called around and only had to pay for mounting because I had bought the tire protection plan...
Cheers,
Rod

Has anyone here had any good or bad experiences with Diamondback tires? They have a beautiful wide whitewall that's E rated.
