Hey all, Have tried to convince my better half to leave the stove the original brown color but she wants to paint it white or black to go with the new white and black tile. I've painted several cars so know the ins and outs of painting but the finish on this little stove is like iron - even 100 grit sand paper will not faze it to scuff the surface up some for painting. Wish I had this tough of a finish on my Austin Healey !!! Anyway, suggestions on what to use to scuff it prior to painting or maybe not absolutely necessary ? Plus, cannot find a gloss high temp paint anywhere. No problem with flat white or flat black but no gloss. Any suggestions on where to get that ? Thanks, Mike

It's Porcelain, which is a glass finish. It's not going to sand very well and if you get too aggressive, it will chip.
This has been discussed many times, and you will find several threads that discuss places the do "porcelain" refinishing.

If you are going to paint it wash it very well then reclean it a couple of times with acetone. Brake caliper paint has a gloss.

Your going to need to have he porcelain redone. Skip the paint it's not going to hold up.

Actually one of the family's here just painted there stove with a gloss brake calliper paint. It says it is rated for up to 900 degrees and their stove looks great. I can't speak to the durability because I am having both a sink and stove done in porcelain.. But it would be worth a try for the price. Here is a link to it. aut ozone brake calliper paint

Thanks everyone for getting back on this. I should have realized it was porcelain, guess my brain wasn't functioning after working inside the trailer in 94 degree heat ! Going to see about trying to convince my wife to leave it as is as in excellent shape and a real shame to change the color. Wish me luck on that ! Thanks again, Mike
PS - brake caliper paint is a great idea if it would stick

Very curious how this brake caliper paint would hold up?.......................I'm sure "the paint will hold up well". But it won't stay stuck very long because you cannot properly prep the surface. Paint needs "some tooth" to attach too, that's why they tell you to sand the surface to be painted with a specific grit of sandpaper.
