I'm Cheryl from Saskatchewan, Canada and I have a 1963 Leisurehome that I'm working on. I've been a lurker for a few months and joined the forum a week or so ago. My husband just pulled my trailer out of her winter parking spot and I snapped a quick photo on my phone so I could post a photo or two here for you.
The trailer has been in my husband's family for a long time. An old bachelor friend used to live in it, then he gave it to them when he was done with it. It sat in the back of the yard for many years and was used as storage. When our kids were young we used it a few times, and somewhere along the line it got painted white (used to be pink with white stripes). We used it again for a season up at the lake while our family built a lakeside cabin, then she was hauled back to the backyard again and has sat there for another 7 years. Last year one of my daughters (who now has a young family of her own) and I decided to pull her out and do some work on her before she became unsalvageable. The plan was to have a little unit that any of the family could use if they wanted to go camping somewhere other than our lake lot.
I went online and began searching for information. Little did we know that vintage campers seem to be all the rage right now!
Last fall we pulled off the skin at the back and did some re-framing, then busy harvest time and then winter hit. I had pulled the j-rails off so I taped all the seams with some foil tape, tarped her well and we moved her out of the way for the winter. Today my husband pulled her back up near the house so we can get back to work. Both front corners need repairs, and the frame right above the door is rotten, so it looks like some more skin will have to come off. There are some other things that need to be dealt with as well, (ie: a few new interior panels) but we'll start here and see where we get led to next. Upgraded wiring, new flooring tiles and exterior paint will be in the works somewhere down the line.
