Having owned a couple of basic homeowner / contractor type saws in the distant past, it's time to step up to a unit I'll keep for the long haul. I'm leaning toward a good old heavy duty cabinet unit like a Delta Unisaw etc. I have the room and portability isn't an issue. So what are you all using, and likes / dislikes?

I like having a separate saw for each purpose. In fact, I have two miter saws, one in the shop, the other in the woodshop/barn. I like them separate because there's no set up for a different use. Each saw is ready at a moment's notice.
Radial arm saw Table saw Router table Band saw And my favorited miter saws
Don't have a lathe, but wish I did. LOL.

I agree, we have 3 of them at work. My budget prohibits buying one though. I know, you can't put a price on a finger, lol. I'm also not thrilled with the cost of replacing the brake, $80 or so when it pops, and the blade. We go through that scenario at least once a month at work, but the saws are used heavily. Always damp wood, and occasionally plastic. I've only done it once, and it was cutting 6mm PVC board. I've been told it's due to the static charge? That at being said, I'd buy one if the funds would allow, but I'm maxed out at $1500 tops.

Wow. More than twice what I paid for my camper, just for a table saw.

I use my old ShopSmith with a couple of extra tables plus a stationary and a portable band saw then three different reciprocating saws also two jig saws and a miter saw. I forgot three skill saws, and that wonderful little vibrating wonder that no trailer builder could live without. It is amazing what a guy collects over fifty or sixty years. When something happens to me my wife figures at dime a tool she will be get a million dollars back.

I've been looking at them. A couple of my cabinet maker friends have them in their home shops. If I buy new it will probly be a Grizzly cabinet saw. Best bang for the buck from what I've seen. I hear customer service is excellent as well. I never see a used one for sale in my area.

Grizzly is a decent place to buy tools and most all good quality.

I've got a "Jet" 10" cabinet table saw and love it. Had it for over 10 years and not one problem. Its got a 60" table and good fence. I can cut a full sheet of 4X8 plywood all by myself(with the help of the outfeed table I made). I always buy the best I can afford and justify when it comes to power tools.

I'd go with an older unisaw if you can find it. You can't beat the fence systems. Powermatic would be second choice. Grizzly has major issues with warped tables and hard to align fences. I've seen 3 people return them. But they are all very high end cabinet shops.

Got a saw story for you!! Bought the hubby a Delta Unisaw for Christmas (when we were younger)as a surprise. Can't remember why now but it sat in it's original box in the barn (unheated) for about 13 years. Well he finally got the barn wired and opened it up a couple of years ago, it was pristine!

Great story! I did that with a new welder, but only 5 years. Had to have it. Sat in the box until I set it up and been using it ever since. My favorite piece of shop equipment, lol.

So I finally purchased the table saw I've longed for. Ever since I was spoiled back in high school shop class I've wanted a Unisaw. I stumbled on this never assembled 1996 model on Craig's list for $600. Grabbed it within 10 min of the add being posted and couldn't be happier. Its a beast! I'll finish dialing it in this weekend and add an updated guard and splitter. Even happier than myself is the Airfloat sharing the shop with it. It'll be instrumental it bringing the poor trailer back to life.
