PO had removed the gas light in favor of an electric clock. The gas line was still there just capped off. Well...I had to have a gas light and the boss wanted to keep the clock, so I ran a new gas line and installed a new gas light. I love the gas light. I use it when it's a little cold just to take the edge off in the camper while either working or thinking / relaxing! Compromise is the backbone of a successful marriage. Gas clock!

I'd be curious to know how many people die in fiery explosions "caused by propane lamp fires" each year in travel trailers?
Seems to me that "they do require some common sense", and as the saying goes, YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID".
"Guess" I have a "unrealistic fear" of "open flames" inside a "wood box". If they'd ever seen the mantle blow off one of those things they wouldn't think it was an unreasonable fear... I bet nobody knew they were radioactive, either... www.motherearthnews.com/natural-health/radioactive-danger-of-mantle-lamps-zmaz82ndzgoe.aspx

I blew up a gas lamp once in my 20's. Shot flames 10 feet up in the air. Lit the tarp above the camp on fire. Somehow when your 20 you think its funny... not so much now!

I knew it, don't breath in the smoke when lighting the mantel for the first time. Mark

I knew it, don't breath in the smoke when lighting the mantel for the first time. Mark I remember that smoke! Where can I buy the correct mantel? I also remember the coleman lantern mantels were too small.

Blue, depends on what brand lamp you have, mine is a falks and hard to find the stuff for until someone posted a link to gas-lights.com . But if it's a Humphrey or more common make, Amazon sells them cheaper. Preformed mantles: www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_gnr_fkmr1?rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Apropane+preformed+mantles&keywords=propane+preformed+mantles&ie=UTF8&qid=1479280500Tie on mantles www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=node%3D3401301&field-keywords=propane+light+mantlesAnd if people use the brain that God gave them, check for leaks all along the system before EACH use, have a window or vent cracked while using a propane appliance and have a CO2 detectors properly installed and functional, there is absolutely no reason not to use propane appliances or lights. I actually feel safer with propane stove and light because I can make sure it's all working properly every time I use it, whereas with electric you have no idea if something has happened to the wires or connections until it's too late. I will repeat until I'm blue in the face, that with proper safety measures and ventilation there is no reason to be afraid of using propane. Do you use natural gas in your home??? Gas Stoves, fireplaces, furnaces, dryers, water heaters??? What is the difference? You can more easily check a propane system in a trailer, that's the only difference.

I have components for a gas lamp that I am thinking of installing in My camper. I do not have the globe for it. Guess I had better do some shopping before I go running the gas line for it. Thank You for posting this thread.

Thank You msgoehring for posting that page for the gas lamps. I guess for $100.00 I will not mess with the gas lamp that I have, I will just get a new one. My friend that has the cabin at the tongue River Reservoir is off the grid. I will donate the gas lamp that I have to Him, He can use it for parts for His gas lamps. it looks to be the same. Does anyone know if those hard mantles are okay to use on an indoor lamp ?

If the nozzle is made to hold them then they can be used inside. That's what my light uses, the hard preformed mantle.

Thank You msgoehring. I will check with the gas-light company and see if the single mantle has the one inch mantle piece, then order in a couple of the solid mantles too.
