Thank you Cowcharge! This is a wonderful tutorial on the old Suburban NTs.
One thing to look for in these furnaces is burner chamber blow out. You'll see gaps or broken seams...

Hey Cowcharge,
New member, just discovered this site when I was trouble shooting my very own NT 22 C. I currently have the furnace out of my trailer, as my trailer needed extensive structural repairs. I'm not quite ready to re-install the interior as I am currently insulating the shell. Do you think I can hook a propane tank up to the furnace to test its operation, or would I require a regulator that is not part of the furnace?
Thanks in advanced! BTW, your tutorial on taking apart and cleaning this furnace was awesome!!

Welcome Nathan!
You can bench test the furnace but must have a regulator on the tank. A BBQ regulator would work, so if you have a tank and regulator, you're good to go.

Hey Vikx,
Thanks for the tip, that's what I did, and after cleaning it our and re-assembling, (thanks to the thread above!) it fired first try and works awesome! looks like it has hardly been used. pretty excited, we bought a 1975 Coachman for $600 and had to completely rip it apart and rebuild it. Luckily all of the appliances seem to be in good working order. This was the 'recalled NT-22, and the rubber seal was cracked, but I'm a sheet metal worker so I replaced it with a stainless steel piece.
Thanks again for both of your help!

This is a great write-up. I have the same furnace, but after the recall and repair. I'm looking for a thermocouple for it. Have you or anyone else managed to locate one? And if so, do you have a link or contact information to get one?

I recently purchased a 1973 Coachman travel trailer and have a question concerning the NT-22 furnace. A previous owner removed the thermostat and left the wires hanging. My question is, is there supposed to only be two wires? I'm used to house thermostats and they have way more wires. Thanks in advance.

I remember the NT 22 having only 2 T'stat wires. Most RV furnaces work with just the two. Do some research on RV T'stats and how they are connected.
