New cabinet and new countertop-could not find the color we wanted in the original linen pattern, so we used kind of a s pattern.

Looking from back to front, have the new dinette bases started. Can see what the stove looks like when finished- looking more and more like a camper

Better picture of the stove and cabinet, installed the original faucet. Will put the inserts into the stove knobs later.

Looking from front to back, ceiling over large cabinet. When i rebuilt the cabinets, I used the original round corners and covered them with new veneer. Used all solid ash and plywood, will make the trailer a little bit heavier. Used all new rubber welting between cabinet, floor and ceiling.

Wow...you have achieved a LOT of progress already! Thanks for sharing with us. One question though, why did you select the ash panels? Do you just like the look of ash over birch?

This one came with an ash interior. I think it depended on where it was built on whether it had ash or birch.

This one came with an ash interior. I think it depended on where it was built on whether it had ash or birch. What it depended on was whether they had access to birch or ash at the time. Sources of birch were becoming more limited due to the expansion of the trailer industry and when they couldn't get birch, they would use ash and sometimes maple.
Now it is illegal to transport ash in the US due to a bug called the "Emerald Ash Borer". More Info here... www.emeraldashborer.info/faq.cfm#sthash.W2EMuggZ.dpbs
Many infestations, however, were started when people moved infested ash nursery trees, logs, or firewood into uninfested areas. Shipments of ash nursery trees and ash logs with bark are now regulated, and transporting firewood outside of the quarantined areas is illegal, but transport of infested firewood remains a problem.
Although it can be bought in certain areas where it is grown and milled it can not be transported to other places where it isn't grown and milled. So the sources are very limited now.

This one was built in Van Nuys California, I had read somewhere that the Indiana trailers usually had birch and the ones from California had ash.

With the 1960 and newer Shastas I've seen both here in California. But the older ones that I've seen were mostly birch except for this 59 I'm working on LOL. And I can't get Ash for it. The 57 Westerner I'm working on is also Ash and I used White Oak 1/8 inch to replace panels with. It has a very similar grain pattern.

Very nice 59! Jealous of your veneer. Mine rippled and not sure why. Congrats!
