The birdhouse is of course optional. I don't have experience with humid environments as you describe. I live in an arid environment. You should get a good quality tarp. The cheap blue tarps at Harbor Freight are awful and will desintegrate within a month especially in the hot summer sun. I have bought tarps from TarpsOnline and they have lasted up to 4 years, but are due to be replaced in the next month before we get rains. I insured the success of the tarps by placing a sheet of 9 mil plastic sheeting underneath the tarp in case the weave of the tarp weakens and starts to leak. I bought a roll at one of the big box stores and cut to the length I needed. If you are only needing the tarp for 6 months, you might be okay with a good quality tarp without the plastic sheeting, but that is your decision. The plastic also minimizes the tarp wear from the J - Rail. Cheers, Rod

I have bought tarps from this place and they are beyond compare in my opinion as far as tarps go. You can get pretty much any thickness you want. billboardtarps.com/

I would suggest building a lean-to with enough height to work under it. This one appears to be attached to the house but it's freestanding to avoid building permits.
We can do that next year, but it's not in the cards this year....
