Hey delawaredave, I tow with a RAV4 V6. Two really important things about your tow vehicle. Most important is keeping the transmission cool. The trans can overheat even if you're only towing at the suggested one half tow rating. Adding a quality and large capacity aftermarket transmission cooler is a must. I personnelly use a B&M Transmission cooler with "stacked plate" construction. Check out their website. And get the largest you can fit on your rig. You can't overcool with their technology. Also, get a Scan Gauge II to monitor your transmission temp. It's easy and plugs into your rig's computer. Then you know exactly where the temp. is and drive accordingly. If you don't monitor the temp. you're only guessing. Second, drive your rig a lot easier when towing. Don't let your transmission shift while you are pulling hard. It's a lot easier on the internal clutches. I manual shift my automatic and ease off the gas when shifting. Shift something similar to a manual transmission. Also, flush your tranny every 30K miles. I know, Toyota advertises lifetime tranny fluid and I don't buy it. People might think I'm crazy, but I pull 3K lbs. with my V6. It's got 268 hp. If you do the weight to horsepower math, it's got as much or more power than some other "manly" tow rigs. So.... keep the tranny cool, shift easy, flush the fluid. P.S. brakes are a must and a equilizer hitch. Skippy
