I am a newby, so thanks for accepting me in the group. I am renovating a 34 foot 1952 vagabond. I have removed most of the living area panels and insulation. What is left is tar paper that was put on before the skin. It is in very bad shape. What was it’s purpose? Can I remove it and replace with something else before reinsulating. Thanks

Welcome!
Tar paper? You mean the vapor barrier between the skin and framing?
"I have removed most of the living area panels and insulation."
Did you gut the camper from the inside? Again, photos would help us give you clear answers.

Welcome. We need to know more about your trailer. Does it have riveted skins? If not, repairs are done from the outside in by lifting the skins. That will allow you to replace the vapor barrier after doing repairs. On a stick and tin (non riveted) trailer, the skins must be at least lifted to get to the lower support boards.

A quick image search indicates that they are riveted trailers. Very cool looking too.
