Owch! Why would they hurt those poor trailers! Watching it makes you realize just how resilient these old trailers are. Thank you NC. We plan to completely sandblast and paint our trailer Frame, but that’s after we do the walls. Sounds backwards, but for our trailer... it works.

Just thought I'd add this video link for those curious one's like myself: Ultimate Jack - e-trailer Nice idea if your tongue isn't too heavy. May be a little sloppy imho, but like it. Also, on the axle topic; agree with NEVER "flip" an axle, however, moving it from on top of the springs to below the springs is generally fine. It gained me about 4" in height on my teardrop so the rear didn't drag going through dips. Your ground to axle clearance remains the same. Was easier to find a drop hitch to match the tongue height needed for proper towing. And usually doesn't require much more modification than wrenches can handle.....sometimes, but not always.... Another thing I do when towing is to wrap a bungee cord around the tongue then "hook" them to the safety chains to take up the slack so they aren't dangling down and scrapping the road. Also, another reason I do this; we were on one of our first trips out West when we encountered some roadkill. Straddling it with the truck I though, no problem, then I heard the safety chains "ching", my thought at that instant: Eeewww, I have to handle those when I unhitch.....

One of those "Why didn't I think of that?" ideas.

I have bounced the hitch ball stud (Bolt) off the curve entering parking lots from Raleigh to Spokane. Better that then the rear of the camper but still annoying. Did they have less extreme parking lot entrances back in 1962?

Ok... what do you guys replace your old ice boxes with? Ours is to much to get fixed at this time. We would need to ship it to CA.

Oh, and Larry, where did you buy your really awesome tin snips? The big gray ones came believe it or not from Home Depot and they are made in the USA. And you can change the blades if needed but I've never had to. The electric sheers came from Harbor Freight of course. On the Ice Box. Those aren't all that hard to find but you don't want to deal with shipping costs. Big thing to ship. So look around in your area first. Craigs List for one. NOT EBAY. Again.... shipping. If you just can't find one and are at the point of giving up, go to Trailer Trasher Chris. trailertrasher1@gmail.com

There are some simple questions you must ask yourself before to can answer how high is two high. First what type of roads are you going to tow on. Such as smooth, rough, flat, hilly, curvy, then what type of wind conditions can be expected in the area where you will be towing, high cross winds, usually very little wind, ect. Overhead clearance, trees, bridges, underpasses, tunnels. Next how fast do plan on towing. Now how many steps are you comfortable having, is everyone going to have safe comfortable access to the trailer consider age both young and old, is anyone handicapped? Once you answer these questions then you can decide what the cost to properly change ride height is and is it worth it.
