That thing is a rally showpiece. Great work.

Last post until I get the metal on. Just a few odds and ends but thought I'd share to show some more of the details especially the curtain rods. I saw the copper conduit done in a house once and thought it looked great so what do you think? It was really easy and cheap to do. I like all the metal colors inside this trailer! We also put up the panel trim that we tried to recreate from original. Unfortunately I couldn't find an exact duplicate router bit as the old stuff but it's close and turned out pretty well. I like the old timey switch plates too. If anyone's interested they came from Vintage Wire and Supply. I made the mirror frame and vent frame from the old mirror that originally came with her but it had rat pee on it so I salvaged what I could. Lastly I made the sink cover from one of the old rat-chewed doors. The wood was so pretty I hated to waste it. Can't wait to get her clothes on and all painted up! Of course all campgrounds will probably be closed again soon, but she's waited this long to be revived I guess we can wait a little longer to hit the road! image (2) by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr image (1) by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200629_164729 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200629_164719 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr image by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr

What's what looks like a galvanized steel box near a window? Thanks Rod! The galvanized hanging metal storage bin is for our keys, wallet, phone, dog leashes. Ya know, quick grab as you go out the door and vice versa. There's a photo of it on page 1 for reference. I almost hate to admit that I found it at Hobby Lobby, but sometimes you just have to do business with the man! Aka, I try to shop as small as I can but admittedly Amazon also has a fair share of my money. Sigh.

Anyone have advice on how to do a DIY decorative X in my new door skin as shown in the photo below? My Westerner had the X and I want to duplicate it for the restored version but am not sure if I can do it with a piece of wood or do I need angle iron or if I have to, just find someone with a brake and get er done that way. 20200313_125505 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr

The X is hard for me to see, considering the huge backwards Z in paint. To make indents in aluminum like that, many lay the aluminum on a towel and use a straight edge and pizza cutter or screen spline tool to make the indent. Look up videos of Diy Shasta wings.

Thank you! Great idea and sounds simple enough. It is a really shallow decorative X so I think I can do it with this technique. So appreciate the help! Pictures soon!

Larry (Mobiltec) also made an awesome sunrise window covering and should have a video, though he may have use a brake.

X's in sheet metal are called cross-breaks. Used to stiffen large flat areas to keep them from "oil canning". If you take it to almost any H.V.A.C. shop they would probably do it for next to nothing.

Thanks everyone for the tidbits of info and encouragement. You guys have been a huge help! I have some pics of more progress. The skin is on and let me tell you the last piece in the rear, was a bear! Buckling galore but we figured it out and got it done. Then the curtains came and my cat Lulu said thanks these will do. Using so many tools that were new to me before this all started but now are old hat! Next was the door. Building it, skinning it and placing the panel on it was not a big problem but hanging it is turning out to be an issue. Seems the old hinge is a little short so we have to figure out another problem making an old part fit a new fixture. Oh and thanks for the advice on the X on the door. We found a spline roller tool that had a wide, slightly rounded edge instead of a sharp edge and it worked well I think. The port hole may come as a surprise but the original window was jacked up and missing the glass and metal glazing, which is very tough to find. I am at heart, a boat person so this brings a bit of nautical to the ol' Westerner. 20200712_162652 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200719_113432 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200710_164338 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200710_163838 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200723_133747 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200724_165926 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200726_150122 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200726_150245 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200726_150226 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr 20200726_164408 by Kerry Iliff, on Flickr

This worked like a charm btw! Thank you!! The only thing we made sure of was to find a spline tool that wasn't sharp so it didn't cut the aluminum as it made the indentation. I found a rounded edge metal one at our local hardware store, actually the oldest in the nation hardware store. They claim if they don't have it, then you don't need it! Haha!

Touche' Kerry, Why is there a block under the last strap in this picture and not one under the others? Hey Rod, The blocks were tighteners. After you get the straps as tight as you safely can you can add a block to pull down the strap a lil bit tighter near the ends. I think that photo was taken as we applied them to all of the straps eventually. When we got to the back we did it again back there. Totally stole this idea from Larry. Thx!
