Don't think it's a 57 Deluxe. If it is a Deluxe, it's older. I believe they were made earlier than 57 as well. If I had to guess, I'd say 55 or 56. It certainly isn't like my Deluxe was. I wonder if it's a really early Airflyte??

The Airflyte line, with the introduction of the wings, started in the 1958 model year, and to my knowledge, the Deluxe was one of the models introduced that year. There were definitely a couple models that were predecessors to the Airflyte that looked like that (without the bullet holes and roll cages....) Also if my memory is worth the time of day anymore, there was a model 1400 and 1500 that existed in the mid 50's, before the introduction of the Airflyte and Deluxe, and a "1600", and at some point, a "Model 16". The measures were never exact, and the Airflyte was considered a 16-foot model even though the overall was 15' 4" or something around there. One more thing, as a casual observer, I have noticed that people can be idiots everywhere, not just in New Mexico.

Thanks guys. Vikx I think it has to be a 57. According to Ross's previous remarks to other lucky owners of Shasta's, one had a C92** that he said was a 57 1500, and mine is C9524.
This brings me to you Ten, my husband and I was talking about it last night, and think maybe that it was built early 1957 as a prototype. It's layout is exactly like vikx's deluxe, but still has the more rounded front, slanted front side windows, and shorter body. It also doesn't have a bumper. She's a Frankenstein, not counting the exoskeleton roll cage and bullet holes 🥴. I wish Ross was still active so he could check her with his database. I'm just 1 year and 2 months too late.

Hey vikx, I was looking at some of your photos of the 1957 Shasta 1500, and the lanolin under the bed is identical to mine. Was that trailer constructed at Van Nuys, CA?

Desert people do odd things and that roll cage certainly qualifies as odd. Maybe they added insulation to the exterior at one time. It gets crazy hot and cold in the high desert... or maybe they had a Mad Max thing going on and it really is a roll cage? Either way it's an awesome find - have fun!

Thanks PT. We will most likely be removing the roll cage this weekend. I will post pictures of her without it. It's going to be kind of sad, but it has to go. My luck it's holding the trailer together. 😅

By the way... The exoskeleton is made of welded bed frames! Rotten wood is running between them. It was probably stolen, with my luck, and the guy was trying to disguise it. The last time it was registered was in Oregon in 1984 according to the license plate hanging over the door inside. Oh well, I'm not giving up on her!

My gosh! Someone sure did a lot of work on that roll cage! I’m thinking they put that on there so they could sit on some sort of platform on the roof? It almost looks like steps on the side maybe. Cute trailer as is and would be an absolute hit at Burning Man!

Cute trailer as is and would be an absolute hit at Burning Man! That may very well be what it was for. It maybe a hit, but it makes it pretty heavy, and I bet we would be pulled over by every state police car on the way. Lol😜

I don't know where the Deluxe was built... it was sold several years ago. I might have the VIN somewhere, tho. I'll see if I can find it.

How wide is the camper? The 1500 is 6.5 feet wide and the 1400 is 7 feet wide is my understanding.

Yikes. Just saw this. First you gotta unflip that axle. Very dangerous to have it that way. Then you'll have a frame off rebuild on your hands. Don't remove anything from the inside yet. To start right you must remove the metal skin off the outside and begin there or your trailer will just fall apart during disassembly. I noticed it has the original refrigerator. Looks a lot like the refrigerator I had in the 57 1400 that I did. (and actually it was a 56 but they are exactly the same)

Well, mobiltech, we are currently watching your video of refinishing the '57. It's very informative. I thank you for the information to change the axles. We are planning to flip them half way. What do you think? It's a throw up what our girl is. I'm titling, and registering her as a 1957 Shasta Deluxe. It's the closest that I and our other fellow forum readers could come to. We are planning to rebuild her from the bottom up, so to say. My husband was really leaning towards the approach you went with. Starting at front or back and working our way from there. But... We are open to any suggestions.
