So I’m getting a bit too geeked up by this current EBay offering for my resto project and I need someone to slap me out of it. My plan is to gut the interior and re-configure it to accommodate four with a bathroom.
Please check out item#233339606836 and give me comments, good or bad including value.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but you haven't given us a link to see what you're referring to. We don't use the term "gut" to describe the proper way to safely restore or rebuild a trailer. Read on and learn before you commit to anything!

The only 1963 Comet I see on eBay is one that’s already been redone. It’s $6500, and the details on the rebuild aren’t clear except that everything above the frame is new. Not sure what that means. Actually, I guess it doesn’t mean much if it wasn’t done correctly. The one on line also seems to be a small trailer - 10 or 11 foot body - it’s nearly impossible to sleep four grown or mostly grown people in one, especially one with a bathroom. We did it with Hamlet (10 foot body) but the other two people have to be under about 12 years old.

Read on and learn before you commit to anything! if you open ebay and input the item number I provided in the search box then it pops right up. At least it does for me.

Did you not see those pics?
Re sleeping four, its actually two adults and two kids. Note there would be no "kitchen". My vision is to include bed for two in the rear 5 feet deep and as long as the trailer is wide and two bunks for the kids.

That’s a lot of money to start with the changes your talking about making. The front area almost looks prefab if so how much support is there. It’s the cabinets that give a camper it’s strength. You don’t want to be one of the stores we see to often on the internet of a camper coming apart on the interstate.......... Debra

Debra If you're referring to the front area of the interior being prefab, the seller does say in the description the countertops and cabinets were IKEA. However, if they are attached to the sides, wouldn't that count as support?
Re the price, I'm not considering paying the full asking price but I am interested in hearing opinions on what a fair price would be all things considered.

After looking at all the pictures on eBay, it appears to have been "rebuilt". I was skeptic at first with some of the interior materials used and thought it was a cover up originally, however, it's probably just materials that are more easily obtainable. The Ikea cabinet, eehh, if it's particle board, not much backbone there. Interesting interior lay out. The $6450 sounds quite a bit strong, IMHO, but then again, we all know how much time is involved... According to framing pictures, it appears sound. Would probably be a really good trailer for, say $3-3500? Just my thoughts, didn't say they were good ones...

First of all, it's no longer vintage. The seller has added a bunch of his/her ideas and decor. The builder did a beautiful job on the framing with attention to detail. I'm sure there were many hours involved but there's no charm left. As a VINTAGE TRAILER, I'd say 2500 dollars, if that. All that is left is an old trailer exterior with hail damage and a modern interior. It needs new skin.
For someone wanting to live in it, Whitney is right on at 3-3500. With all the heavy pine and air conditioner, I'm not sure it would tow very well. It's not really what a trailer is "worth" but what the traffic will bear. I don't think there's much of a market for it.
As far as gutting the above, there's limited space to reconfigure and still add a bathroom. IMO, you would be better off with a bigger trailer for 4 people. (kids grow) Many 70 and 80s trailers are already equipped to sleep 4 to 6 and you could design and alter to your specs. With attention to structure, of course.

I like the exterior vintage look and the new framing/electrical which I would pay for. The interior would be gutted so I'm not inclined to pay a premium for those.

Good to hear the framing looks good.
My plan is vintage on the outside, usefulness on the inside. Not bigger than sleeping in a tent, but better than sleeping in a tent. And when the kids are too big for the bunks, they'll be old enough to stay home alone.

With Hamlet, we figure that when the grandkids are too big for the bunks, they can sleep just outside in a tent. Kids love tents.
