Except for the paint job, I have completed work on my 1959 DeVille. It was almost all original (missing the gaucho pull-out and the mattress). I purchased it from a vintage trailer restoration shop. I had not found this forum or Mobiltec's videos yet, so I went in semi-blind. The guy is a scam and his work was all wrong. I took his word about some of the "repairs", which either weren't done or were completely botched. Took me months to either fix or work around those "repairs". Scraped at least five tubes of silicone off of it. I am a purist, so I kept it as original as possible, except I converted the closet to a potty and built the rock guard. Thanks to everyone here for the great threads and major thanks to Mobiltec for his videos. 20190616_112219 by R W, on Flickr 20190616_112234 by R W, on Flickr 20190616_112253 by R W, on Flickr 20181222_144126 by R W, on Flickr 20190616_112609 by R W, on Flickr 20190616_112619 by R W, on Flickr 20190616_112658 by R W, on Flickr 20190518_124832 by R W, on Flickr

I also made an awning. The exterior colors are not going to be original (I am NOT a baby-blue and pale yellow kind of gal). Will paint her white and sage green, with turquoise and terra cotta stripes. Painted silver instead of polished aluminum on the small stripes. 20190616_123958 by R W, on Flickr

HI MayBell, Your trailer turned out fabulous and I am glad you were able to undo the incorrect issues. I look forward to seeing it all painted and your awning up. Would it be possible for you to post a few pictures of your shade structure that was built over your trailer? I am curious how it was built. I noticed the corrugated tin up top. Does it leak? Can you share how much that cost, or did you build it yourself? Welcome to the board, btw! Rod

It had been partially destroyed during a monsoon, before I bought my property. Not a straight line on the whole thing! I did all the work myself, adding a third beam at the far end, three additional support posts (6x6), and all the rafters/braces. I had to beef the connections with lots and lots of hurricane straps. I bought corrugated tin (seconds) at a roofing company. I had to get creative on getting the 10 foot sections up there, but I did it. Used roofing tar to seal the overlapped seams. No leaks. I plan on adding three sides to it eventually. Materials cost around $600, including the tin and lumber for the sides (not including the telephone poles that were already in place). Another $350 or so for the scaffold (I need it for other work around my property). I am kinda proud of my work; I am a small gal, 59 and have a bad back. Took me a couple weeks to build, but I got it to the point where I could cover my trailer and work on it. (Yes, that back post is a little wonky. I had to splice together the 6x6 posts to make them tall enough and that one got away from me while cutting!) Hi Becky,
Well, you should be proud of yourself!! That's an undertaking for anyone, especially one in the senior category. Denny's says it's 55. That's when you get your senior discount. Age is a number. It's what you can still do that counts!
It looks fabulous. The wonky pole just gives it character.
Can you give me width and length or just a ballpark on both measurements when you get a chance?
Thank you.
Rod

Yeah, measurements would help! 15.5 feet wide, 21.5 feet long and 11 feet high. Once I get the sides and back enclosed, I will put in metal shelves to hold all the trailer repair stuff/leftover supplies I bought.
