I just completed a full rebuild of all of my interior cabinetry using the originals as a template this last week on my frame up 54 terry rebuild. I am getting ready to reframe the walls next. I saw the 54 terry thread by papamike95 and was thinking of using his technique of using wider lumber for the top of the walls pocket screwed and glued to the framing and then cutting in the canned ham shape into this wider framing to match the old rotten wall. The main framing would still be 1 by framing like the original. I would just be replacing the thin strips originally used to build the canned ham shape with solid wood. I am planning on using the thin strips of plywood for my curbing when roof goes on. Is there any downfall to using solid wood at the top of my walls other than the added weight.
Also if anyone is needing cabinets to template or use for a 54 terry or similar I have all of mine that I will shortly no longer be needing and available in pacific NW. They were painted a terrible black color and would only be good for templates. It’s a 54 terry 14 foot trailer. Thank you for your input

I use wider lumber at times. I think wider 1x in places doesn't add much weight. Sometimes I add it where there will be plywood curving. But the glued and layered plywood is very strong. I believe stronger than the pine below. In areas where I want something stronger I've used Poplar (or other harder wood) than pine.
