Hi all,
Meet "River Joan", a 1972 Playmor (I know.. not vintage ) that my partner and I just purchased:
Advice would be graciously accepted We are both new to owning a camper and restoration work. I've browsed a few of the beginner threads, but a direction to information on (1) this specific model and (2) general upkeep would be most welcome!
Reference:
- She is 14' from the back to the front of the hitch and (I think) weighs 1750 lbs without cargo
- We are in humid North Carolina, without a garage or many tools
- Our goals (for now) are to take River to music festivals and on weekend camping trips
While I'm introducing myself, I figure I'll share some of the obvious problems as I'm sure there's plenty of discussion I can read before further cluttering the boards.
1. The obvious problem we need to focus on is wood damage/poor sealant.
The front right side:
Here's the corresponding outside (tape applied by previous owner):
And the back left:
2. She is equipped with a "Premier" brand stove/over. The stove tops work great but I can't get the pilot to light .. possibly making a newbie mistake.
3. The seal for the top hatch is warped and falling apart:
4. The door doesn't latch unless you pull extra hard. The lock/handle have been recently replaced but it still doesn't line up perfectly (perhaps something is warped?)
5. (a big one) We don't have a vehicle (yet) to pull her. From preliminary research I think we need something that can tow >5500 lbs.. is this accurate? I don't think she has brakes but to be honest I'm not sure how to verify this.
Again, just sharing to get pointed in the right direction ( not looking for a full-on repair thread)
I want to respect the community here, please let me know if I am not complying with any forum rules/norms.
A picture of her booty for good measure!! I don't have them now but would love to share more pictures of the inside if anyone is interested
