I am thinking about reusing the old skin on the 47 Main Line and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience polishing metal skin like this. It's good metal. Just oxidized on the outside. Inside is still nice and shiny.

Very cool trailer. What the heck! You of all people, asking us ? Your humility is boundless. Like Julia Child asking us how to fry an egg!
Oh, and no, I don't have any experience with polishing old aluminum.

Oh, and no, I don't have any experience with polishing old aluminum. I've seen it done twice but did not ask questions nor did I take notes. And the metal on one was a Silver Streak which is different type of metal than this 47. The other was a tear drop which had been painted all of it's life and then stripped and polished. That won't apply here either. So I'm not educated in this one. I'm sure someone here has experience. LOL Julia Child asking how to fry an egg...

I polished the Forester and it was a long, slow process. The camper was covered in house paint and getting it off caused some scratching.
With that said, it was passable. It had a slight milled finished look. This is a photo of the skin dirty but you can see it never had the high gloss/see yourself mirror shine. Have you ever used the pre-polished skin from Hemet? I like the thicker skin but pre-polished seems easier. As you know, there were some issues with this skin. Thin, harder to install because of flexing, spots when rained on, but easier to trim. And I think it costs more.

Wow I can't believe I may be learning something from FlyteCamp. LOL... I didn't know they had tutorials. I'll have to thank Justin.

I basically tried that method and had OK results. I'm using the old siding and put new aluminum on the front, back and roof. It's a long process and I found that the old metal reacted differently in different locations..... Here are few pics. Hi Friends,
I might be able to help Larry. I know someone who polished out a 1947 travel trailer with a breakless skin.it came out incredible.
I will see what I can do.
