I started my restoration on my 57 Trottwood over the weekend by taking out the windows, brows and lights. I noticed something with where the roofing meets the sides. The roof does not overlap the sides, they butt up to each and there is an angle moulding that actually has the screws running along the roof line. I will most likely replace the roof material because it is covered in tar. I am sure the way the roofing and siding was put on at the factory would make Mobiltec cringe. I remember in one of his videos he said 'this siding is all wrong, it's just a drain into the interior framing", I will most likely replace the roofing and follow Larry's video from the 57 Shasta and overlap the roofing and staple it to the siding and install new j-moulding with the butyl tape.
I will work on getting photos uploaded too.

Mine was done exactly the same way. The roof and sides didn't quite touch, and there was a 90° angle moulding covering the joint. Of course there was lots of rot all along that joint (and tar all over the roof).
I installed the new metal with an overlap.

What did you end up doing with the old angle moulding? Did you just buy new j-moulding and install it with the roof peened over and staples?

I was going to either reuse the original pieces, or order duplicates, but when I ordered my siding the seller included new j-rail. I didn't specify it in my order (it wasn't free), but I'm glad it was included. My old moulding is covered in silicone, tar, and paint, and I wasn't looking forward to cleaning it.
It's not installed yet, but yes it'll be screwed onto the overlapped-and-stapled portion of the joint, with putty tape under the j-rail.

If the curving/edge board is constructed in a way to screw into (on the side) I'd overlap the roof over the walls.
Add photos of the framing/edge board/curving if you can. Photos always help.

That 90 degree molding for when the roof and walls butt together is called "top edge molding" or "corner cap"... The 57 Shasta had both corner cap and J Rail. They did J rail just for the roof and the rest was done with corner cap. I just put new metal on the entire wrap and did the fold over with J rail. You can always improve on Shastas...

Our Scotty of course originally only butted up with no fold over. When I go back it will be done with a small fold over and the edge moulding not J-rail. I may even use the Dicor corner seal tape.....I haven't made up my mind yet. Dicor

If all else fails, I guess you can open an account. But let's see what other members suggest.

Oakback, Where did you purchase your siding from and what type? Whitney

Hemet Valley, the 4" roll pattern, their most popular siding.
