Hi, I’m new here, just brought home my first trailer, a ‘62 Shasta Compact. It will be stored outside in a paved, uncovered storage yard between trips. We live in southern California, where we get occasional rain and many hot, sunny days. I want to protect my little trailer from the elements with a fitted cover, preferably one with a zipper opening for the door. Any suggestions?

Covers will rub the paint off in spots. You may not have much rain but you do have a lot of wind when the Santa Anas blow through. I used to live in Riverside County so I know of what I speak. Your best bet is one of these. This cover runs about $750 installed.

I agree with Larry. I spent $100 on a cover and the sun rotted it within 2 months. Luckily the company gave me a refund.

I bought a used Costco carport and the cover it came with it rotted away within a year. I switched to just putting the Costco 11 by 16 foot tarps on top, two for $22, and they last about two to three years each before the California sun takes them out

Any cover which touches your trailer will do far more damage than it will prevent. Don't do it. Some sort of portable carport (like the one Mobiltec posted) is a much better bet.

We are in very damp western Washington. We cannot put a carport on our home property, so we did purchase a cover... meant for an R-pod. Not the best solution, but it will at least keep the rain hand rot) out for a couple years until we can figure out a better plan.

I have a large covered area to park my trailers in but I use R pod covers to prevent dust from collecting. It's amazing how dirty they get just sitting...

We bought a custom cover from this company www.calmarkcovers.com. Since we live in Ohio and store our trailer in a RV/boat lot, our main concern was protecting it from snow, ice and rain. Also, since we've not painted our trailer, the issue of paint scuffing isn't a concern, at least for now. The cover fits nicely, and is on for its second winter. The only downside was the cost. PM if you would like a pic or two. Your climate might dictate what your best option might be.

Likewise, glad to meet you and check out your surroundings. Since we got home in October, our trailering was pretty much over for the year. We did have the time of lives, spending 2 months on the road, traversing almost 7000 miles, and checking out some of the beauty our country has to offer. I still check out the forum every once in awhile. But when its cold (17 degrees) and the forecast is for a Polar Vortex, a cosy fire inside is very comforting.
Trailer on good buddy!
