Just located and purchased a1970 Shasta Loflyte . Will require extensive restoration. Would like to ask opinion, if I alter the camper from it’s original factory profile would I be going wrong?

If you feel you need to alter the profile, is this the right trailer for you. Why not just start with what you want, otherwise it sounds like you are just buying a Loflyte for parts.

My opinion is if you are building it for you and yours to use then build it how ever you desire as long as you make certain that everything is strong and safe. If you are building it with plans of resale in the future then I would keep it fairly stock.

Changing the floor plan will greatly reduce the structural integrity of the trailer. This is because you have a very light weight box on wheels bouncing down the road at 60 mph and the only way it is held together is with and through the cabinets. Those cabinets are all that are holding the trailer together. So you must keep that in mind when thinking about removing anything from the inside of the trailer. Trailers are not built at all like houses. With a house, the walls hold up the cabinets. With a trailer, the cabinets hold up the walls.
Welcome to our forum and I think it was a really good idea that you asked before tearing the trailer apart.

If, by “profile”, you mean the layout and construction of the interior, mobiltec is correct, you have to make sure you understand how the trailer was originally constructed. If you mean the side profile, as in changing the roofline, a couple members have done that successfully, but the success was because they were careful not to disrupt the basic structural integrity. Other than the caveats from mobiltec, you can do whatever you want, bearing in mind that if you plan on keeping it for just a couple years, keep it as original as possible for resale, otherwise, dream away!
