Hello everyone
We have been searching for a trailer to "lightly" refinish, and we were having a tough time finding anything in the SF Bay Area that met that description that was in our price range. We didn't want to pay for one that was already done, as my wife has plans on how to "make it her own". So, I got onto "searchtempest", set the search radius to 1000 miles and started doing a serious search, as well as FB market place.

We didn't want to pay for one that was already done, as my wife has plans on how to "make it her own". So, I got onto "searchtempest", set the search radius to 1000 miles and started doing a serious search, as well as FB market place.
We wanted a trailer in the 14 - 16 range, as we wanted both a toilet and shower, and didn't really want to use a portapotty. She for sure wanted a pre-69 model, and we both like the Shasta wings, but we weren't locked in on that, as we also liked the Aladdin, Aristocrat, Layton & Ideal.
Last week I found a 1959 Shasta that was advertised as an Airflyte, but it was actually a 1900 deluxe. When he took the photos, he didn't take a picture of the shower side. The trailer was in Medford, Or, about 5 hours from us. I had the seller take additional pictures, as well as a video, just so that we could see as much as possible before we drove up. The new pictures actually made it look better than his posting, so we drove up Friday, and checked it out Saturday morning.
The inspection that we did showed that it was as original as could be. It's a Shasta, so there was water staining, and there is repair needed at the vent fan, but the rest of the ceiling seems good. There is a cleat missing inside the bathroom on the ceiling where the door wall is suppose to be secured, so it moves back and forth about an inch. The "only" floor damage is at the entry, which appears to be because the entry door is broken internally. Checked corners for rot with an ice pick, and it seems good as far as that goes, since it didn't poke through.
The seller found it in Brookings, Or, which is on the Pacific Coast, so I was afraid that there would be frame rot, but we didn't find any. He bought in Jan 2013 (based on the one day trip permit in the back window), pulled it into his barn, tarped it to keep the bird droppings off the roof, and there it sat. He and his family (and business) are moving to Texas, the house and farm is for sale, and he didn't want to haul it to Texas, which is why he was selling it now. I was able to confirm that based on the real estate pictures from 2 months ago vs the Trailer ad pictures vs the Barn when we got there. Almost half of his projects had been sold or moved. So we felt comfortable with the back story and why it was being sold.
We both liked the trailer, and we know that there will be more work that just a little "light refinishing", but we both agreed that this was "the one" that we wanted to tackle. Bought new tires, packed the wheel bearings and brought it home last night.
