Hello,
Does anyone know if Aljoa is pronounced with a "hard j" or a "soft j" ?
Hope that makes sense.
Gustave

Looks like what you have there is an Aljoa if it is a 1954 or earlier. 1954 is the year they dropped the "a" due to a law suit brought against them by Alcoa Aluminum claiming infringement on their trade mark. So the company became Aljo...

So the company became Aljo... Interesting. It was sold as a 1955. But it has a plaque on it that says Aljoa, built in Gardena. The plaque might not be original (I'll take a pic of it when I get home in a day or two). Is there a way to trace the year from the VIN on the frame? Gustave

Post your VIN and I'll try. I think mine was coded for length, width and serial number.
6150072958= 56 (the 6) 15 feet 00" long, 7' wide, serial #2958. Oddly the number was on the A frame coupler piece witch usually isn't done since it can be changed out.

See they still had a lot of plaques sitting around in the shop and they wanted to use them up. So they continued with the plaques that said ALJOA on them until they ran out while painting the emblems that had no "A"...

The "VIN" on the pink slip is 54131288.
There is a number stamped on the front portion of the frame (tongue). I have not yet checked to see if they match. I just stumbled on it as I was examining the jack the other day.

If so it shows the length and the number off the line was number 1288 also but this isn't always the case. These things vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

How is the length of a camper measured exactly? Is it the total length of the "shadow" it projects on the ground? Gustave

But Aljoa could have been just measuring the box for the VIN. How long is yours?

OK, as promised, here is a pic of the ID # And here is a pic of the plaques affixed to the camper, just to the right of the door, mid-height: Since these plaques are just screwed onto the camper, they could have come from anywhere I suppose. I'm under no impression that they are original. I measured the camper length and it is 13 ft long from tongue to stern. The "ham" portion is only 11 ft long. So, is this a 1955 or a 1954? Gustave

It's a 54 but may have not been registered for the first time until 55. And when you paint it I would go with ALJOA... The lawsuit didn't actually end until 57 so they may have gone on painting ALJOA on them until then. And I am sure that your plaques are original.

OK, thank you. I guess I will refer to it as a '54 Aljoa then. Gustave
