Hi Friends, Saw this a few weeks ago and wondered what people thought of an outside port for hooking up an A/C unit? In this video at minute 0:49, Larry mentions the outside port for connecting an outside air conditioner. I never did figure out if that was added or it was original to the Fiberstream trailer. Folks add A/C units to the restorations from time to time. I just wondered if there was a way to do this but come up from underneath possibly or even in the back or side storage door and put in a port hole just like in the Fiberstream trailer. My first thoughts are that it would be ugly and then the ducting work might be a pain to work with. The interior wouldn't show the front of an A/C unit, but some sort of venting which I would think would be less obtrusive. However, what you gain inside with aesthetics, you lose outside with the unit tethered. Not attractive at all. But, who knows? Thoughts? Rod

Okay, don't laugh. I've shared this in the past.
A few years ago I hooked this up as a temporary AC solution and it worked so I never did anything with the spot I framed for a slide out AC unit.
ACAC ventAfter the restoration I hooked up to the flange underneath.
This cost me almost nothing because one of our campers (below) came with a new 5000btu AC.
Yes, it says Love Shack on the front.
A portable unit like this would look better. But would you leave it out while hiking?
I really don't like a unit attached to a vintage camper. The slide out units are unobtrusive.
Full disclosure: we've only needed it a few times and it takes 10-15 minutes to hook up. A Fan-tastic Fan is enough to keep us cool most of the time.

Well, I did laugh as a matter of fact, LOL. I don't remember seeing this since my tenure here at VTT. Thanks for showing me and other readers what it could look like. I appreciate it. Cheers, Rod

I like your setup! I could do that just in the evenings with my “boyfriend” door. I can’t sleep if it’s super hot and no way am I punching a hole in my trailer! The kitchen vent would be a good spot for this as well if I could disable the “auto on” feature. Hmmm

We have a portable heat & Air stand up unit in the closet of our Shasta, it has worked out perfectly. Danny Does it vent out the roof?
---
I think this unit has potential if they ever go on sale. They've been doing R&D for years.

Kevin, the unit is designed for interior use from what I am told, so it's return vent in the side of the closet and the heat & cool air is vented through the door, the drain hose and the exhaust is routed through the floor. Danny

Beautiful installation! What brand of portable is that? The unit was purchased from Lowes several years ago and I believe the brand is still avalible, it's a 8000 BTU Soleus heat/air/dehumidifier.
I have seen other brands that should work in a confined space.
I had originally thought about mounting a small air conditioner on a sliding rack similar to how the drawers work in a roll around tool chest behind the rear storage door, I could raise the door then slide it out when using it, the original plan was to fabricate a cover for the front of the air conditioner and route a couple of hoses through the panel under the bed and into the interior.
I honestly believe it would have worked well but sacrificing the closet worked well and I gained heat in the process, I know the air will freeze you out on high and even it the snow it will keep you toasty. Danny

Danny Interesting. Does it have a round hose attached like this to vent hot air created when air is cooled?

Looks like the current models discharge out the top which would make it a little harder to incorporate into a cabinet.
