Has anyone used Meranti plywood when doing a complete rebuild? I found 1/8” Birch for $28 and the Meranti is $18.

I was pricing some marine plywood last night for my boats and was looking at the Meranti and Okume and wondering how it would look. It is more like a mahogany so it will not match any existing cabinet if you saving them.

There are many types of lauan, Light Red Meranti, Dark Red Meranti, White Meranti, Yellow Meranti, and Balau. That one you found has more grain than I have seen. I've been in the building supply business for 25 yrs. I would guess that is the yellow meranti or balau. You can stain or shellac lauan....the problem may be the consistency, but I like how mine turned out.
this was cut and pasted this is from the post ? about plywood there are several pics there where Meranti plywood was used. I am also using lauan in my project. there are pics of mine in Shasta Compact 1971?
