That's neat! Snug as a Bug! Looks like a great find and a fun treasure!
I just joined myself… so I'm just posting a Hello right now!
I'm sure someone out there will recognize the manufacturer and help you find your VIN number!

Looks like a great deal, even with the "shudder" that hit when you mentioned the "silicone" part...

Looks like a great deal, even with the "shudder" that hit when you mentioned the "silicone" part... The newer ac had a few small gaps at one corner that I wanted to address with the caulk, yet I do expect that at some point there was a small leak near the exterior seams in the roof since part of the headliner is sagging. So far everything seems really solid. We shall see though since I'm hoping to tow it from Atlanta to Moab, UT next September for a Bronco 4x4 trip. I just wish I had an idea of what the heck I actually bought so I can get a tag for it.

The first place that I would for the vin is on the right outside of the tongue right behind where the coupler welds on. Take some paint stripper and a wire brush and clean it to bare metal the number on many trailers are stamped very light so look hard and clean off easy no heavy grinding to remove paint at the most use a cup brush on a grinder. Also check inside the frame channels for a tag. Shastas are in both places not sure about your brand.

Looks to be in really good shape. Can't wait to see it in person.
I would guess its a late 60s to mid 70s. VIN stamp as mentioned above is usually on the curbside of the tongue. There may be a small steel plate welded onto the inside of the V of the tongue. They aren't very big maybe 1/4" or 3/8" x 2".

Shasta made, makes a Phoenix. I saw one a while back somewhere on Craigslist when searching for Shastas but I can't tell you the year. They seem to be newer models. The current one is a 5th wheel. And there is a YouTube video of a 99 25ft and it has a VIN listed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdAwM92ou-w I have no idea when they started making them. Yours might be totally unrelated to Shasta. But you can take a look and see if the logo looks similar.

From what little Ive seen so far is the company who manufactured them was sold in 67 or so. One of the links above has a photo nearly identical to mine. The new ones shasta makes are sweet (way out of my $$$ range). It seems like a shasta knockoff with cheaper panelling and hardware. I'll say though, it sure is comfortable on the few under 20°f nights we've had at hunt camp so far this year. I'll poke around for the VIN when I get back out there this weekend.

Yes and Shasta's name was bought by Coachman and then Coachman was bought out and the story goes on. In todays world the name of the game is buy up and old respected name and try to profit from it, some times good sometimes not.

I don't think anyone ever made a cheaper trailer than Shasta. What ever you do, never ever even mention the word CAULKING around people who restore trailers. We don't use it and hate it when they come with silicone caulking all over them. It won't stay sealed very long and it's harder than heck to get off. Looks like a great little camper. I'd say it's a late 60s to early 70s from the shape and the windows. You done good on the purchase. Now just don't mess it all up with caulking.. We can tell you the proper way to re-seal your trailer which you really should do. It's time for it now before it does start leaking. Welcome to the board!

Well Id say somebody beat me to it. They didnt get the memo and thought liberal use just about anywhere was a good idea for preventative maintenance. I've looked at several of the tear down an rebuild/restores here and can see that in my distant future, if for no other reason than to see what condition it is in thats not evident to the naked eye. Lile kto I collect old broncos and am always trying to fix other guys "handy" work. Thanks for the welcome. I can see Ill learn a lot here.

Welp. After a fair amount of scraping and sanding, I found the VIN. It was located on the top of the curbside tongue in case some poor sap ever comes here looking for answers regarding their Phoenix trailer. Also noted a badly faded sticker that seemed to etch the skin beside the lower right side of the door that reads, "this vehicle conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards. Ast effective January 1, 1963." not sure whether that indicated that its a 63-64, or if that was just standard over a wide range of years. I wonder if there's a good way to find out more about the thing from its vin. I have the PO pressing the guy he bought it from 7 years ago to try to find a registration or any other info he might be able to dig up. Another sticker says "sold by Chastain's - Anderson-Greenville, SC" so that'll be another avenue to persue. On another note I discovered a leak around the roof vent, so I'll go ahead and install the new tinted vent shade that I bought for my little 5x8 pace enclosed but never installed. Its larger so that will give me the opportunity to shore up the framing there and reseal (properly! Lol). Hopefully by my trip out west next september I will have rebuilt some of the interior and any studs that have seen better days. We'll see though as I have too many projects now as is (put another way: when I get this tagged Ill be paying taxes on 4 trucks and two trailers). Thanks for the tips so far folks!
