I have a Glen Aire furnace I am thinking about re-using in my 1964 Shasta. It is a model 17-SWT and appears to be in good condition. I an currently about three quarters through the restoration of this trailer and thought it time to see if the thing is salvageable. It is not currently installed but I hooked it up to a propane tank outside and attempted to light the pilot light. It seems to be leaking below the pilot light at some sort of orifice looking thing located just below the pilot light. The fitting isn't loose so it's not a leak at that point but seems to be a part that has some holes?? in it that maybe should not belong there, I don't know. I tried looking on line for parts or even a manual to show the parts to ID it. I guess my question is, are there parts still available for these furnaces? It looks so simple and I would like to keep the thing original if I can. I don't plan to do much cold weather camping but still would like to have working furnace. Thanks for any help.

Is this a fan furnace or a passive heater? Parts are very difficult to find for furnaces. Please post a photo or two so we can also "see" the parts.

I've got patience but not enough to go through all the things necessary to post a photo. I did the next best thing and have a link to a photo of the furnace and the part I am referring to below:
www.airforums.com/forums/f427/1958-glen-aire-furnace-68786.html
If you scroll down to the two pictures of the furnace, the second picture on the right shows the internals. If you look right in the middle where the thermocouple gas line goes up and screws into the bottom of a sort of shiny metal round thing, that is what is leaking. It's not at the fitting that screws on as that would be a simple fix by just tightening it. I don't know what it is called. Could it be part of the whole thermocouple assembly? I thought thermocouples were simpler than that but I haven't had much experience with old RV furnaces. I sure would like to get this thing up and working to keep it as original as possible. Thanks for any help.

Worked on same unit Saturday. The orafice you mention is air inlet for pilot I think. My pilot wouldn’t light become tiny gas holes were stopped up forcing Gas out lower orafice. I sprayed pilot and orafice w automotive carburetor Cleaner and blew out w air. Pilot lit w no problem and gas quit trying to belch Back Out of air orafice which I think had a spider in it as well. Anyhow That’s my story Fwiw

Thank you Youngbloodhawk!. That is exactly what mine is doing and I will bet that I have the same problem, crud or spiders in the orifice. The trailer had been sitting out in the woods for about 30 years I think so it was indeed full of crud. I have completely disassembled and rebuilt this trailer from the ground up and just got all the skin back on and readying for paint. Hope to have it all done for some Spring camping and I might need that furnace working.
