I'm in the process of figuring out my kitchen design and I'd like to have a place in the cabinets to get fresh water for drinking and for hand washing. Originally, I thought I could shove one of those blue 5 gallon water containers under the counter and run a 12v pump from it to a faucet. After reading horror stories I've rethought that. I like Vikx's 1 gallon water jug design but I think I'd like something bigger.
Has anyone put a 5 gallon ball valve keg under their sink? The ones used for soda machines or home brewing. I see them for sale on craigslist for $10 all day and they are stainless steel. I'm thinking someone could even connect an O2 tank to it and pressurize it just enough to push it through the faucet. Otherwise I would just run a 12v on demand pump. The only problem I see is that it's tall and skinny and I'd just have to come up with a system to keep it locked down during transport.

You can do several of the above and/or use a hand pump with a larger tank. I got a 7 gallon at Wally's for around 15 bucks.

Ahhh, home brew beer keg, now that I didn't think about. I don't think it'll fit in my dorm fridge, darn!
After reading some reviews on Amazon, it seems the biggest worry from some folks is- is if it comes from China, and if it is refurbished. If I was going that route, I would try to find a new one with good reviews so your not messing around with replacing seals/parts all the time. I have a jerry can (2) system under the sink with a hand pump. It is a light system but works for my needs. If you go with a keg system, keep us informed, very curious indeed.

My older rebuild has a new 20 gal tank, water heater and on demand 12 v pump. Very delux and we, especially she, love it. Our TAB( about 15 years old) has a plastic 5 gal tank and a 12 v pump that is switch activated. Very simple and works great. 5 gallons goes a long way if your careful and have a couple water jugs for drinking too. The original faucet had the switch built in. When it broke i put a toggle switch next to the sink. That type of pump is inexpensive and i got it at a local rv shop.
