I have always heard the tractor trailer repair places (not mechanics) and also sign shops can order large sheets. I have used neither. I will be ordering some myself in about 2-3 weeks so I will get schooled up quick and will share the info-

Mobiltec, I used a lot of staples as well into all new wood (frame off rebuild). For a test, I took a scrap piece of aluminum and the wood I used for the rebuild. I then stapled it all together and then tried to pull it apart. I didn't have much luck. I had to use a small screwdriver to lift up the staple to get it out and even then it was a chore. I guess I got lucky with the box I grabbed. It almost appeared that the staples had glue on them.

The heat from the friction of moving the nail through the wood causes the coating to liquify resulting in lubricating the nail on it's way in. Then once in there it turns to glue and dries. This helps to hold the nail in. The same coating may be used on staples. Just a matter of getting them to penetrate two layers of thick metal. That's the only problem I've had.

WhitneyK kamhawk Did either of you purchase your aluminum from a chain? I have called semi repair shops near me and they obviously don't repair the trailers. Do those shops have some type of special name? How did you find them? Sorry, haven't been on here in a long time (obviously). Need to see if I can turn on notification via email somewhere??? Anyway, I purchased my aluminum for the teardrop at Apex Trailer Service in Jeffersonville, IN
I used the 1/4" crown staples and it went through the .040 with no problem,... mostly.

Look for semi trailer shops/dealers they are usually in the business of repairing trailer bodies after accidents, where others just repair mechanical problems such as brakes, springs, bearings, and king pins. They heavier aluminum is harder to work with when cutting or bending but is much more durable. Your insurance agent might be able to steer you to such a shop.
